Xiaomi set the standard for foldables in 2024 with the Mi Mix 4 Fold, which debuted in China last month and is now available on Giztop. This ultra-thin and lightweight device features an upgraded Leica quad camera, a slimmer, lighter, waterproof carbon hinge, and exclusive features like Wi-Fi 7. While Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 has its own strengths, Xiaomi’s offering pushes the envelope in foldable technology.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 Fold weighs 226 grams only, making it as light as the Honor foldable, though it is slightly thicker at 9.47 mm. When unfolded, it impressively measures just 4.59 mm thick. This contrasts sharply with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 (Battery Review), which has a thickness of 12.1 mm and weighs 239 grams. However, the Samsung foldable does offer one hardware advantage.
Larger Battery and Enhanced Carbon Hinge
Compared to its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mix 4 has slimmed down but still has a larger battery on board. 5,100 mAh instead of 4,800 mAh, it still charges via USB-C with 67 watts, wirelessly with 50 watts. The new carbon hinge is reportedly more durable than the Mix Fold 3 from 2023 and is now the first to feature IPX8 waterproofing. Samsung currently has the advantage of being partially dustproof. For those who value pen operation, the Galaxy foldable is a better choice. However, South Korean manufacturers are still lagging in camera performance.
Xiaomi has installed a Leica Summilux branded quad cam with two macro-capable telephoto cameras. One features a 50 MP sensor with 2x zoom and an F/2.0 aperture. The other has a 10 MP sensor with 5x zoom and an F/2.9 aperture. The main camera features a 50-megapixel Light Hunter 800 sensor, likely based on Omnivision. It has an F/1.7 aperture, 23mm focal length, and optical image stabilization (OIS). There is also a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle with F/2.2 aperture. In addition to the dynamic 7.98-inch flex display on the inside with 2,488 x 2,224 pixels and 3,000 nits maximum brightness, there is an equally bright, dynamic 6.56-inch OLED on the outside. The external OLED features a 2,520 x 1,080-pixel resolution.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 Fold price and release date
The foldable, equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was launched in four colors: Black, Black Fiber, White, and Blue. It is listed on Giztop.com for as low as $1,329 for the Black Fiber variant with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage.
Unfortunately, there are currently no plans to bring the Mix Fold 4 closer to Samsung fans internationally, unlike the Mix Flip. There is good news, however: Unusually for Xiaomi flagships recently, the device supports LTE band 20. This means there is one less obstacle to importing it.
