Meike has announced an affordable autofocus lens for full-frame Sony E mount cameras. Meike 85mm F1.8 STM is suitable for portraits, architecture, and landscapes. It has nine elements in six groups and is equipped with a nine-bladed aperture that provides a range of operation from f/1.8 to f/22.
The Meike lens has a diameter of 69.5 mm, a front filter thread size of 67 mm, and weighs 386 grams. The lens supports autofocus with Sony E-mount cameras, both full-frame and APS-C, as well as full electronic communication. It means that the lens should work just like any other Sony lens and allow electronic iris adjustment as well as EXIF data transfer.
The autofocus is driven by a stepping motor (STM) which ensures quiet and smooth focusing. The lens barrel is advertised as being dust and dirt-resistant.
Price and availability
The Meike 85mm F1.8 STM is now available from Bhphotovideo.com and Amazon.co.uk for $199.99 / £229.99. Meike also mentions several supported Sony cameras like the Alpha 7 IV, Alpha 9, a6300, and a6600, though it’s not clear if there are any restrictions on which camera it will work with. For example, the Alpha 1 and Alpha 9 II are missing from its list, although the company may have decided it didn’t need to publish a complete compatibility list, as this lens is supposedly supported by all Sony E-mount cameras.
