The MSI MAG 342CQR gaming monitor, released in 2021, now has a successor. The new MAG 342CQR E2 again uses a 34-inch VA panel with UWQHD resolution (3440 x 1440 pixels, 21:9) and 1500R curvature.
But, it achieves a maximum refresh rate of 180 Hz instead of 144 Hz. The contrast ratio, meanwhile, shrinks from 4000:1 to 3000:1. Once again, 10-bit color depth (8-bit + FRC) and 300 cd/m² typical brightness are offered. The specs also mention 119% sRGB, 95% DCI-P3, and 93% Adobe RGB.
Adaptive Sync guarantees smooth, tear-free gaming. While HDR support is promoted, it may not impress due to limited brightness and the absence of dimming features.
The MSI MAG342CQR E2 includes two HDMI 2.0b inputs, a DisplayPort 1.4a, and a headphone output. However, without HDMI 2.1, the refresh rate is limited to 100 Hz on HDMI, while the full 180 Hz is only achievable through the DisplayPort.

Dell has recently launched the Alienware AW2725QF gaming monitor, offering dynamic switching between 4K at 180Hz and FHD at 360Hz. This 27-inch model comes with an IPS panel and dual-resolution support (3840 x 2160 pixels). It is now available on Amazon UK for £530.99.
