Line 6 DL4 MKII Delay Effects Pedal with Modern Design

It’s been 23 years since Line6 introduced the legendary DL4 delay and looper effect pedal. Those who were serious about it at the time didn’t have much choice. And the fact that it is still in the market after such a long time reflects a lot about the quality and demand. But now its new version has come in the market, whose name is Line 6 DL4 MKII.

The DL4 MK II will directly replace the first version Line 6 DL4 (approx. $250 on Amazon). All sounds from the first delay pedal are included, plus some modern delays from the HX series. Line6 hasn’t changed the basic structure, and once you’ve internalized the first version, you can get started right away.

Apart from the modified case, which now looks a little less like a car from the 50s, there are a total of 128 preset slots available. 6 directly on the pedal and 122 via MIDI. The four footswitches and six controls (time/subdiv, repeats, tweak, tweez, mix) are well-known, but the legacy push button is new, with which the old delays can be accessed.

There’s also a lot going on on the back: You can connect an expression pedal, alternatively a 2-way footswitch, and there are also mic inputs with their volume control, mono/stereo inputs, and outputs. In addition, the aforementioned MIDI connection is divided into 5-pin DIN In and Out/Thru. The modern USB-C connection is used for firmware updates and MIDI and can also be used to switch presets, but also to change parameters live.

Also new is the MicroSD card slot, which is available as an alternative to the built-in memory for the looper, and the DL4 MK II can also be used as a recording station. However, the battery compartment is gone. It only works with a 9 V/500 mA power pack.

Line 6 did the homework. Everything about the DL4 MK II is correct, and in our opinion, the 2022 version is a worthy successor. If you don’t need the modern features, you can certainly stick with the first version. Everyone else looking for a great delay/looper should at least try it here if the wallet allows it.
