LG gave a sneak peek of the groundbreaking UltraGear OLED 45GX990A and will fully unveil it at CES 2025 in Las Vegas next week. Based on a 45-inch, 5K2K panel, this innovative monitor can seamlessly transform from a flat gaming monitor to a 900R curved monitor in seconds, promising a gaming experience like never before.

Foldable gaming monitors are back, but not from Corsair this time. In late 2022, Corsair released the Xeneon Flex 45WQHD240 with a 1440p (approx. $1,200 at Amazon), 240Hz WOLED panel sourced from LG Display. A newer panel type forms the basis for the UltraGear OLED 45GS95QE (approx. $997 at Amazon), but it has never evolved into a foldable gaming monitor.
Today, LG Electronics has revealed the unique UltraGear OLED 45GX990A ahead of its full unveiling next week at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. According to LG, this monitor can smoothly transition from a completely flat screen to a 900R curvature in seconds, a feat made possible by a motorized method for bending the screen back and forth.
The UltraGear OLED 45GX990A is a powerhouse, sporting a 5,120 x 2,160 resolution with a pixel density of 125 PPI. LG has incorporated an RGWB subpixel layout to enhance readability and an anti-reflective and low-reflection (AGLR) coating to minimize reflections and glare. The monitor also features a variable refresh rate (VRR) for stunning game visuals and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-SYNC to eliminate screen tearing, all with an impressive 0.03ms GtG response time.

Unfortunately, LG has yet to reveal the monitor’s refresh rate. However, it has been suggested that the UltraGear OLED 45GX990A could pair its 5K2K resolution with a 165Hz refresh rate for a bandwidth of around 60.18Gbps. As such, the monitor’s DisplayPort 2.1 port should meet the UHBR20 standard to avoid using Display Stream Compression (DSC) to achieve the 5K2K resolution and the 165Hz refresh rate simultaneously. Presumably, LG will reveal all the details at CES next year.
