Lenovo is renewing its mobile ThinkPad T-series model, the ThinkPad T14s. The new Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 features a redesigned look similar to the ThinkPad X1 Carbon.
Lenovo is not prioritizing repairability with the thinner, more compact ThinkPad T14s G5. Instead, the new model is even closer to the premium ThinkPad X1 Carbon G12 in terms of design. There is no longer an AMD variant.
Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G5: Redesigned to Resemble the X1 Carbon
With the new ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, Lenovo is using a mono-hinge for the first time in the ThinkPad T series. The likely reason is the significantly narrower display edges compared to the ThinkPad T14s G4. As a result, Lenovo now places the WiFi antennas in the wide hinge instead of the display lid. The reverse notch on the lid matches this, and should also help Lenovo to reduce the display frame and thus dimensions. The 5 MP webcam is housed in the camera hump, as the name suggests.
Lenovo is also breaking new ground with its design: the FN and Ctrl keys are reversed to match the standard layout of most other PCs. To the left of the arrow keys is a new Windows Co-Pilot key, which can also serve as a classic menu key. Lenovo has placed the speakers to the right and left of the keyboard, as with the previous ThinkPad X1 Carbon G11.
Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 Drops AMD Option
Since the Lenovo ThinkPad T495s, there has always been an AMD variant of the thinner T-ThinkPad. The new Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G5, the 2024 model, now runs exclusively on Intel Core Ultra. Lenovo seems to offer both the U and H variants of Meteor Lake, as the specifications mention Intel ARC graphics.
Apart from that, not much has changed dramatically in terms of the specifications. Lenovo has increased the maximum RAM from 32 GB of soldered LPDDR5X to 64 GB. In addition, the refresh rate of the optional 2.8K OLED display has increased from 60 to 120 Hz, and the standard WUXGA display now has a brightness of 400 instead of 300 cd/m², thanks to a special new display film from 3M.
