Lenovo ThinkPad T15 & T14 Gen 2 with Ryzen 5000 and Tiger-Lake CPUs

Some of the other ThinkPad laptops were redesigned by Lenovo this year. That is not the case with the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 and Lenovo T15 Gen 2, which build on their predecessors. But that doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing – for example, the ThinkPad keyboard with its longer key travel is retained.

Lenovo T15 & ThinkPad T14 Gen 2

Every two to three years, Lenovo redesigns its ThinkPad series of business laptops – typically. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 2, for example, the thinner and lighter premium variant of the T series, will be given a redesign this year.

The “normal” T-series in the form of Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 and ThinkPad T15 Gen 2 are handled differently. The slightly cheaper models, which are probably among the best-selling ThinkPad laptops, continue to rely on the familiar design that has been around since the ThinkPad T490 from 2019 is used.

That doesn’t have to be a bad thing, because unlike the T14s Gen 2, the ThinkPad T14 and Lenovo T15 Gen 2 stick to keyboards with 1.8 mm travel. This means that no connections are lost, which might be the case with a redesign.

However, the two new Lenovo ThinkPad laptop models are not without innovations: The ThinkPad T15 and T14 Gen 2 will also be available in the new “Storm Gray” color, with only the display lid being made of aluminum. The optional Nvidia GeForce MX450 replaces the MX330 from the predecessors T15 and T14 Gen 1. Both AMD Ryzen 5000 and Intel Tiger Lake are used in the ThinkPad T14 Gen 2, whereas the ThinkPad T15 Gen 2 remains exclusive to Intel CPUs.

Thunderbolt 4 ports and Wi-Fi 6E are part of the platform update at Intel. The ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 AMD is getting a different upgrade: For the first time, it will be offered with a 4K UHD display. Speaking of screens: For the first time, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 is no longer sold with HD resolution (1,366 x 786), and the Full HD LCDs in the ThinkPad Lenovo T15 Gen 2 now offer 300 instead of 250 cd / m².

Price and availability

  • ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 with a starting price of $1,834 now available to buy on the Amazon.com website.
  • Lenovo ThinkPad T15 Gen 2 costs around $2000, and it is also available to buy via Amazon.com.

Recently, Lenovo has also introduced the new Windows tablet named Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable includes the latest Tiger Lake CPUs, Thunderbolt 4, 4G LTE, 16 GB LPDDR4X-RAM, a 1-TB-SSD, and is priced at $1,307.
