Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 Review: Perfect Combination of Office and Gaming Laptop

It has only been the first four months of 2021, but Lenovo has shown confidence when starting a series of quality laptops. In this Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 review, we will present you with a completely new laptop combining office laptop and gaming laptop. Now let’s try to explain it in detail.

Performance

It’s been a long time since we’ve experienced a Lenovo gaming laptop. For more than a week of use and experience, we are ready for the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 review here, which brings a smooth experience to many games and helps us handle the increasing workload in the present time. Before entering the evaluation, we would like to get a little point about the Lenovo IdeaPad 3’s hardware parameters:

  • Display: 15.6-inch screen, Full HD, IPS LCD panel, 120 Hz refresh rate.
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-10300H Comet Lake.
  • RAM: 8 GB DDR4 2 slots (upgradeable up to 16 GB).
  • Storage: 512 GB M.2 PCIe SSD, support SATA HDD slot.
  • Discrete Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti 4 GB.

Looking at the above parameters, our Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 review unit has a familiar configuration with gaming laptops, but this is not a high-end configuration level. However, in the experience, we see that IdeaPad Gaming 3 has brought stability when playing high-end online games. To check the efficiency of the Intel Core i5-10300H CPU and Nvidia GTX 1650 Ti discrete card, we downloaded and experienced League of Legends, MotoGP 20, and FIFA Online 4.

Firstly, in the League of Legends game, we have been constantly afraid to turn on the high level of graphics and hope that the whole game experience will be smooth. The results showed that the FPS has fluctuated steadily between 56-69 FPS (when recording the screen), and FPS reached up to 93-113 FPS (without recording the screen). That shows that the Intel Core i5-10300H CPU and GTX 1650Ti discrete graphics card have been handling the League of Legends game well.

Next, we played FIFA Online 4, and we liked it very well that the game experience is very stable. Not only brings a stable FPS level from 60-80 FPS (high graphics), Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 also offers a beautiful display and deserves a reasonable choice in the price range.

To bring more perspectives, we participated in the MotoGP 20 track. This is a new game, and so far, we only have the opportunity to experience it on the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3. If you are a professional racer instead of a gamer playing through a virtual screen, you will not be able to describe this experience in words.

And as you can see, with maximum settings, the FPS ranges from 54-67 FPS. We are very satisfied with this result, although sometimes the FPS drops to 38 FPS, it does not affect our gaming experience too much.

So we made you experience three games with different graphics. Overall, we find that the CPU and GPU are compatible with the device, thereby providing stable performance and a worthy experience for the money that we have to spend. Besides, we also do not forget to experience other tasks and find that this laptop can handle many heavy tasks such as Lightroom, Photoshop, or Premiere at the same time.

However, when you play the game and do the graphics simultaneously, so Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 can hardly handle it properly. Therefore, you have to pay attention to one thing, do not force it for more performance. And besides the practical experience, we also use Geekbench 5 to test CPU and performance. The results are as follows:

  • CPU: single core reached 683 points, multi-core reached 2,419 points.
  • Performance: reached 2,419 points.

We are quite satisfied when the laptop’s performance reaches up to 42,656 points from Geekbench 5. And besides, we also use Crystal Diskmark to measure the read and write speed of the 512 GB M.2 PCIe SSD. The results we obtained are:

  • Read speed: 1,740 MB/s.
  • Write speed: 1,188 MB/s.

You may not know, Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 also supports SATA HDD slots to expand the internal memory. You can freely store data and download heavy games to this loving laptop. At the same time, we also use BatteryMon software to measure battery life. After 1 hour 22 minutes of battery measurement, the result of Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 battery life is 2 hours 30 minutes.

Heat dissipation

Referring to gaming laptops, we cannot ignore the heat dissipation factor, and because of that, we have tested the ability to air-condition inside the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3. First of all, we used AIDA64 to measure, and for more than 50 Minutes of FIFA Online 4 with the photo editing in Photoshop, the software measured the CPU temperature to reach 93 Celsius.

To get this result, we pushed the screen brightness up to 100%, custom sound, opened FIFA Online 4, used Photoshop, and opened 8 Chrome tabs to use for work. Personally, we feel the heat sink heats up and blows air over the screen part of the device. But do you know, the good thing is that the palm rest and keyboard do not get hot, thereby making the user experience more complete.

Design

Looking at the design, Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 owns a beautiful appearance with a neat design and iridescent blue tones. We really don’t know if this is emerald green, magical purple, or glossy black because every time we change our perspective, the color on the laptop changes.

To be honest, the gradient color transition gives us a positive look with Lenovo in general and this laptop for gaming in particular. Why do we say that? You also know that most of the devices and laptops on the market are wearing familiar white, black, gray colors and it is very rare to see the breakthrough with brilliant blue. Therefore, bringing an attractive color tone has helped Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 catch the eye of many technology users.

Considering the feeling of holding, we appreciate when Lenovo brings a laptop with the overall big but not heavy when holding. Although labeled as a gaming laptop and possessing many advanced technologies inside, the notebook still feels comfortable to hold.

One more thing we want to say is that the look of the laptop has a mixture of simplicity and gaming. On the back, Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 does not have too many complicated details and we only see the Lenovo logo in the corner of the device. However, Lenovo has subtly trimmed the edges around the laptop design to look stronger.

Regarding connectivity, Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 owns a full range of connection ports to help link devices and serve many different jobs. On the left side, you will see, IdeaPad Gaming 3 owns a well-designed power port, LAN port, HDMI, USB, USB Type-C, 3.5mm audio jack, and notification light. Meanwhile, on the right side, the device has only a USB port and heat sink.

Display

One of the major downsides of the Lenovo IdeaPad line is that the screen color is slightly green and you will easily recognize it when placed next to the laptop with other devices. However, in Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3, Lenovo’s visibility has been improved and we do not see the phenomenon of blue tint on the device screen anymore.

As you can see, the colors of the app icons are vivid and fresh. Well, one thing we want to say in the screen part is that Lenovo has integrated a 120 Hz refresh rate for a smooth user experience. Combined with GTX 1650 Ti and Intel Core i5-10300H Comet Lake CPU, you will get a thrilling gaming experience.

Owning a 15.6-inch screen and Full HD resolution, Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 has brought a vast visual experience and displayed full details. Another point that makes us satisfied again is that the company has optimized the surrounding edges to make the user experience more attractive.

Keyboard and touchpad

Speaking of the keyboard, you will enjoy it when Lenovo has deliberately integrated the blue backlight below to synchronize with the overall color tone of IdeaPad Gaming 3. This idea is very good and we feel satisfied with the design this time.

We had a great experience with the keyboard thanks to the fast response speed and the large button spacing, you will be less likely to get mistakenly touched when manipulating quickly.

As for the touchpad, we feel satisfied when the experience of surfing and dragging is very smooth thanks to the non-hissing touchpad surface. But if you want the game to be better, we recommend you buy a separate mouse for convenience.

Final line

We appreciate Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 for bringing too many advantages and meeting many users’ needs, from common tasks, user experience to performance. But most of all, we really like the overall perfection and performance of the laptop that makes it possible to compete with competitors in the price range of about $800 and it can be purchased through the Amazon.com and Bhphotovideo.com websites.

You should tell us about this Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 review, how do you rate it? and please leave your comment below.
