Lenovo introduced the ThinkPad X12 Gen 1 detachable laptop tablet in 2021, which was an excellent option for mobile productivity. However, its specs have become somewhat outdated over time. Now, after about three years, Lenovo has finally released the Gen 2, featuring the latest Intel Core Ultra processors. The new model reaffirms Lenovo’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology in the Lenovo Detachable 2-in-1 category.
The good news is that Lenovo has finally updated the ThinkPad X12 Detachable, and the Gen 2 is now a capable portable tablet in terms of productivity. It features the recently launched Intel Core Ultra U-series processors, a solid upgrade over the 2021 Gen 1 convertible.
Paired with 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and a 1TB PCIe 4 SSD, the new Lenovo Detachable 2-in-1 laptop has what it takes to handle most productive workloads. Since the convertible uses Intel’s U-series Meteor Lake processors, it lacks the Intel Arc iGPU found in the H-series.
The ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 should not be viewed as a competitor to the recently launched Minisforum V3, which is designed for gaming on the go. It is designed for a mobile lifestyle centered on productivity, similar to the Microsoft Surface Pro 9.
However, the Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 still comes with the Gen 1 tablet’s folio keyboard. This lets you easily transform it into a lightweight business laptop. It also has the same lightweight and portable chassis as its predecessor, measuring just 8.8mm thick.
As for connectivity ports, the new Lenovo Detachable 2-in-1 laptop has a nano SIM card, a combo audio jack, a 10Gbps USB-C jack, and a USB-C with Thunderbolt 4 jack. Both USB-C ports feature Power Delivery 3.0, and DisplayPort 2.1 are supported.
