Leica Sofort 2 Burton Edition is a new instant camera with a striking design created as a special edition to honor Jake Burton Carpenter, the founder of the snowboard manufacturer Burton. However, Leica is charging a high price for the design adjustments.
The Leica Sofort 2 was launched in 2023. Technically, the camera is based on the Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo from 2021, but Leica has made numerous design adjustments. The Leica Sofort 2 is now available in a Burton Edition, which includes a striking blue front, a Burton logo on the top, and a Burton bag.
Nothing has changed in terms of features. The Leica Sofort 2 is a hybrid camera that records photos digitally and prints them on instant film with an image size of 62 x 46 millimeters. This also allows users to print photos multiple times or transfer and print images via the Leica Photos iPhone app. They can do this even if they took the photos with another camera or smartphone.
The technology is quite simple. Leica uses a 4.9 megapixel CMOS sensor in 1/5 inch format and a 2.4 mm f/2 lens. This corresponds to a 35mm equivalent focal length of 28 mm. The program inevitably carries out the exposure. A 3-inch display on the back lets you preview before you press the shutter button. The camera’s internal memory stores up to 45 photos, and you can expand it using a microSD card. The integrated 740 mAh battery prints around 100 photos and charges via USB-C.
Leica Sofort 2 Burton Edition Price and Release Date
The Leica Sofort 2 Burton Edition is now available for pre-order on Bhphotovideo’s online shop for $599. For comparison, they offer the same white, black, or red camera for $399, while the technically comparable Instax Mini Evo currently costs around $199. For the higher price, Leica extends the scope of delivery to include a Burton camera bag.
