Leica SL Typ 601: 24MP FF Sensor, Leica T Mount, 4K video recording, Pre-order at $7,450

Bring the look of the Leica T, Leica SL Typ 601 has a square boxy design, great grip and newly developed EVF viewfinder with a new EyeRes technology to features an outstanding magnification of 0.8x along with a field of view of 37 degrees, equivalent to medium format cameras.

Leica SL owns 24-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and powered by a Leica Maestro II processor similar as Leica Q Typ 116, it is quite efficient can help camera to record 4K videos at 30fps, continuous shooting is hit up to 11 shots images / sec through the 2GB cache, the Leica camera’s maximum ISO range up to 50,000, quite similar to the current premium full-frame cameras. The camera uses L bayonet mount from Leica T family, called L-mount. Therefore, user can use entire series of the Leica T lenses without an adapter on the Leica SL, though in a reduced resolution APS-C crop mode.

Quite a surprise when Leica added a lot of film feature in this camera. In addition to supporting 4K video shooting at 30fps, the camera is also capable of recording videos in 4K (Cine4K) at 24fps. When in Full HD, the Leica SL Typ 601 can also record at 120fps, equivalent to Sony A7S II. Especially the Leica SL Typ 601 videos can be output in 4:2:2 10-bit format in 4K resolution over HDMI 1.4, equivalent Panasonic Lumix GH4, Sony A7S and more (supports only 8-bit).

The Leica SL camera body is made of milled aluminum alloy and Weather-Resistant to protect the device against water, dust, moisture and steam. Ultrasonic dust cleaning systems are activated when users need. The camera still very heavy weighs 847g, 137g heavier than the Nikon DF and 248g compared to Sony A7 II. It measures 147x104x39.0 mm, which is longer than the Nikon DF and Sony A7 II.

The Leica SL Typ 601 equipped with the all latest connectivity features includes from USB 3.0 to the 3.5 mm headphone jack. With 2x MicroSD memory card slots, capture and shooting will be more convenient, while 1x standard USH-II card slot (speed may reach up to 300MByte / s). It is also supports Wi-Fi connectivity, and integrated GPS that is a rare feature in professional camera. In the immediate future, Leica SL Typ 601 will compatible with three lenses, including Summilux-SL 50mm F1.4 ASPH, Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm F2.8-4 ASPH and Apo-Vario Elmarit-SL 90-280mm F2.8-4, all three lenses will distributed in 2016. Meanwhile Vario-Elmarit-SL 24–90 mm f/2.8–4 ASPH zoom lens pricing around $4950 with the camera body costs $7,450 (higher than the Leica Q). Of course do not forget the Leica SL mount adapters allow to use Leica S, M and R system lenses, as well as lenses from other manufacturers.
