Exclusive Leica Q2 Ghost by Hodinkee unveiled

Leica has announced the release of a new special edition of the Leica Q2 camera called “Ghost” in collaboration with Hodinkee – a site about watches and watch technology. Although Leica has stated that it intends to reduce the number of such collaborations over time, the company still plans to release such collectible cameras.

Leica Q2 Ghost release date and price

The Q2 Ghost by Hodinkee is a collaborative project that expands on the existing relationship between the two brands that began in 2019 with a special edition of the Leica M10-P “Ghost” camera. The camera comes in two sets, Leica Q2 “Ghost” and Q2 “Ghost” Set from Hodinkee.

Leica claims that the “Ghost” aesthetic is meant to pay homage to the diving watch known to connoisseurs as the “Ghost Bezel”. The German camera maker has partnered with brand Hodinkee to create what both describe as “an elegant, understated paint job” for the Q2, which pays homage to classic and iconic watches and their rare gray bezel (a design element of a wristwatch case).

The outer gray leather covering the Q2 “Ghost” camera is made from fine cowhide, which Leica calls natural, with a natural texture and treated with a special coating. According to the manufacturer, this coating protects the camera from environmental influences.

The top cap and lens are painted light gray, and the red Leica logo is deliberately omitted. The Leica Q2 Ghost also comes with a gray braided carrying strap.

The Hodinkee Q2 “Ghost” Set is limited to 150 pieces worldwide. It has a Leica inscription on the top cover and two engravings on the display glass that show the corresponding serial number (from 001/150 to 150/150) as well as the kit name. Hodinkee’s Q2 “Ghost” set differs from the Q2 “Ghost” in a silver thumb rest and gray carrying strap. It also comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The Q2 Ghost by Hodinkee is now available to pre-order at Bhphotovideo.com online store for $5,795, and shipping starts on December 8, 2022. It is limited to 2,000 pieces worldwide.

Leica recently revised its Summilux-M 35mm f1.4 ASPH. 2022 lens, which is now supposed to be even more versatile and flexible. The redesign ensures a nice bokeh and expands the close-up range, which can only be precisely focused with electronic viewfinder images from digital M viewfinder cameras.
