Laowa OOOM 25-100mm T2.9 Cine Zoom lens is now available for Pre-Order

With the Laowa OOOM 25-100mm T2.9 Cine lens – the OOOM name stands for “Out Of Our Minds” according to Venus Optics. The company has introduced the first all-in-one zoom lens from Laowa for the professional cinema sector. This Laowa lens with a focal length range of 25-100mm is designed for filmmakers and video producers with high demands. 

The image results are neither too rich in contrast nor too flat, have excellent sharpness and impress with natural skin tones. In addition, the parfocal lens should have almost no focus breathing over the entire zoom range, According to Laowa. 

Thanks to the constant T2.9 aperture, the shallow depth of field makes it possible to direct the focus point exactly onto the subject. The very short focus limit of only 60cm also allows creative closeups with a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:4. With the Super35+ cover, this lens is even compatible with sensor diagonals over 33mm.

The OOOM 25-100mm works parfocally, which means that the focus point always remains exactly in the same place during the camera movement with the zoom. This focus stability is an important point, especially for professional film recordings. In addition, the Laowa lens has almost no focus breathing over the entire zoom range. With some lenses, there are small changes in the image section if you shift the focus within the image – for example, from an object close to the front lens to an object further away.

In addition, the high aperture allows you to work even in poor light conditions without strong headlights. Another important point for professional film recordings is that the light intensity remains constant over the entire focal length range while zooming. Therefore, the image brightness has been always the same when zooming.

There is no Super35 standard format for video cameras. Depending on the sensor, this varies between 31 and 34mm. With the Super35+ cover, this lens is even compatible with sensor diagonals over 33mm. This means maximum coverage for RED Monstro 6K HD, RED Gemini 5K HD, RED Helium 8K HD, and Arri Alexa Mini 4K UHD. For cross-system use, the Laowa lens is supplied in addition to the standard Arri PL bayonet including exchangeable adapters for Canon EF and Sony E mounts.
