Laowa 7.5mm F2 MFT Lens with Auto Aperture Control

The Venus Optics company has introduced an updated version of the lens Laowa 7.5mm F2 MFT (Micro Four Thirds) – a lens that received an auto aperture control and built-in chip for metadata transfer from the lens to the camera.

Laowa 7.5mm F2 MFT

The MFT lens has the same optical design as the previous model with fully manual control – 13 elements in 9 groups. The number of aperture blades has been reduced: in the new lens, there are 5 instead of 7 in the manual version.

The focus magnifier can also be triggered for easier focusing when rotating the focus ring. The metadata will be stored on EXIF as well. No aperture ring makes the lens a bit smaller in size, and this ultralight lens is well-suited for use with drones and gimbals.

The wide focal length and bright f/2 maximum aperture are also ideal for landscape and astrophotography applications, and its optical design incorporates two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements to control distortion and aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness. Additionally, the lens’s manual focus design permits working with subjects as close 4.7″ away.

The Laowa 7.5mm F2 MFT lens has also become 3mm larger in diameter and 7mm shorter, and despite the addition of an aperture control chip, it is lighter – the new lens weighs 150g compared to 170g of the previous version.
