JioPhone Price is Rs. 0, but with Rs. 1,500 Deposit, 4G VoLTE, Unlimited Data

Reliance Jio today on Friday, announced the JioPhone Feature Phone as “India ka smartphone”, With 4G VoLTE support. The JioPhone price is nulled, yes you heard right Rs. 0, but you have to pay a “fully refundable” Rs. 1,500 as a deposit, which will be refunded after three years.

JioPhone to be available for beta testing starting from August 15, and the company’s target is to have 5 million JioPhones available every week. The device will be physically in the store from September 2017 to those who have pre-booked it and JioPhone pre-booking will be starting from 24th August 2017.

The effective price of the JioPhone is Zero rupees, and “A one-time refundable deposit of Rs 1,500 will be collected with every JioPhone. This deposit is to prevent its misuse.” said by Mukesh Ambani.

JioPhone Highlights

  • The company will offer free data calls, SMS, unlimited data and Jio apps at just Rs. 153 per month.
  • The JioPhone will have a JioPhone TV cable which will connect the phone to any kind of TVs, including CRTVs as well.
  • Jio feature phone will give access to unlimited data on JioPhone.
  • Weekly data plan of Rs 54 and Rs 24 two days plan to be available for JioPhone
  • The phone supports all of India’s 22 languages
  • The device will include access to apps like JioCinema, JioTV, and JioMusic.

Commenting on the Launch, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance AGM said: “There are 78 crore mobile phones in India. “However, in this 78 crore, there are more than 50 crore feature phone users, who have been left out. They can neither afford the cheapest LTE smartphone, nor the exorbitant cost of data.” Also add, “Our network continues to rapidly expand. Jio, in the next 12 months, will cover 99 percent of the population. India’s 4G coverage will be more than its 2G coverage,” he added. To meet the need for device affordability, the company realised it would have to release a 4G VoLTE feature phone, as even an entry level smartphone costs between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 4,500, Ambani said.
