Irix 15mm f/2.4 is a wide-angle lens with many interesting features and compared to the current popular lenses. Designed by the Irix company from Switzerland and manufactured in South Korea, sources said its SamYang lens’s outsourcing company. Lens will be officially sold out this spring with supported Mounts such as Nikon F, Pentax K and Canon EF; Irix 15mm f/2.4 pricing yet to be announced.
Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens is divided into two variants; Blackstone towards durability and Firefly towards lightweight and user-friendly design.
Irix 15mm f/2.4 Blackstone:
The name of the lens showed robust because the lens housing is made of magnesium and aluminum alloys to increase strength. The whole body ensures dust-proof, splash water resistant protection and used in harsh environments. The lens has a focal length of 15mm, full-frame sensor compatible.
Maximum aperture of the lens has reached up to F/2.4, minimum F/22 and 9 rounded shaped aperture blades. Lens structure, this lens has 15 elements in 11 groups, including two glass aspherical lenses that are responsible for extremely high image quality and improving image brightness at edges, while minimizing distortions and aberrations at the same time.
On the coating, Irix said its lens uses Neutrino Coating to reduce ghosting, flare and bad light. The new special features such as focus lock, infinity click and hyperfocal scale set a new level of manual lens functionality. Focus lock enables to lock the focus ring at any time enssuring the chosen settings. Hyperfocal distance scale gives information about the accessible range for depth of field for a given aperture simply and intuitively. When the focusing ring is set in the “infinity” position, there is a noticeable “click” (infinity click), making it easier to find the value without looking.
These parameters are usually seen on the Irix lenses, manufacturers engraved fluorescent markings that reflect the light enable easy operation in all lighting conditions. Lens has an ergonomic focusing ring allows you to lock the focus to choose a different setting when shooting and a special infinity click.
To use filter, user can use standard 95mm filter mounted on the front of the lens, or use gelatin filters at the back of the lens.
Irix 15mm f/2.4 Firefly:
With structural features and optical performance Firefly is equivalent to Blackstone, but it has a more compact design. The difference of this lens with Ergonomic focus ring that helps users easily adjust the perfect focus. Firefly also light in weight, 581gram instead of 681gram achieved as the Blackstone.
