Ilford Brings an Entry-level Film Camera

Inexpensive and easy-to-use analog cameras are no longer available for purchase. There is still a need for those people who have nothing to do with digital, who simply – as in the past – want to use film cameras and then have them developed in order to enjoy the paper images or to give them away. There are films, a development service – only the cheap cameras are no longer available. Those who want to take analog photos today are dependent on using cameras, which for many people are too complicated and usually too expensive.

Now Ilford is reviving a successful camera from the 1960s. The “Ilford Sprite 35-II” has been reissued precisely for this target group and will be launched on the market shortly.

Without having to worry about shutter speeds, aperture, or exposure metering, a film is simply inserted, the shutter button pressed and the film transport lever operated. This Ilford photo camera was attractive to users who wanted to take snapshots without worrying about the correct settings. Due to the limited number of recordings, it was common at the time to be patient and focus on the essentials.

The Ilford Sprite 35-II film cameras have a 31 mm wide-angle lens with a fixed shutter speed of 1/120s and an aperture of f9 for a depth of field that extends from one meter to infinity. The built-in flash has a repetition time of 15 seconds. The Ilford film camera has a lever for manual film transport. With the fold-out rewind crank, the film is fed back into the film cartridge after exposure. All 35mm films can be used in the camera, regardless of whether they are color or black and white negatives. The camera is available in two versions: black or black & white. It is very light with a weight of 122 grams and very compact with dimensions of 119 x 67 x 44 mm.

Compared to single-use cameras, it has the advantage that it is reusable and does not cause any additional waste. Overall, it offers an interesting and inexpensive opportunity to get started with analog photography, not least for young people and for project lessons at school.
