HP EliteBook X G1i & EliteBook X Flip G1i: AI-Driven Performance for Professionals

At CES 2025, HP is launching another Lunar Lake-based office work laptop alongside the EliteBook Ultra G1i. The new HP EliteBook X G1i and its 2-in-1 version, the HP EliteBook X Flip G1i, will replace the previous EliteBook 1040 G11 on the market.

Last year, HP announced a significant restructuring of its office work laptop lineup. OmniBook replaced all end-user laptops, consolidating all brands under one name. High-performance computing solutions became more stable, and HP allowed the EliteBook brand to continue with a new numbering system.

HP released last year’s EliteBook lineup following the old format, but the 2025 models are now changing. As a result, HP will not replace last year’s high-end model, the EliteBook 1040 G11, with an EliteBook 1040 G12. Instead, the company introduced the new HP EliteBook X G1i at CES, along with its 2-in-1 version, the EliteBook X Flip G1i. The new model will feature Intel’s Lunar Lake CPU.

The new name suggests a significant change, but the latest EliteBook X G1i only brings a minor update compared to the EliteBook 1040 G11. HP has adopted the existing housing design without major changes, and the connection equipment is identical. Details such as the battery capacity (maximum 68 Wh) and the display selection remain the same. The new model is also available in dark blue instead of silver for the first time, which means there is at least one notable change.

The main new feature is the high performance processors, as Intel Lunar Lake replaces the previously used Meteor Lake platform. This also means switching to the Intel ARC 140V GPU and on-package memory. However, the memory was already soldered on the predecessor and limited to 32 GB, so not much changes here in practice.

With an entry-level weight of 1.18 kg, the EliteBook X G1i is a laptop in the Apple MacBook Air weight class. However, it comes with significantly more ports, such as HDMI and USB-A, and security features, such as a physical camera shutter, as is typical for a business device.

HP has made naming the HP EliteBook X G1a, which is equipped with AMD CPUs, somewhat confusing. Despite having almost the same name, the AMD variant has its casing, which weighs significantly more at 1.5 kg and is more like an Apple MacBook Pro 14. In the case of the EliteBook X, Intel and AMD are not just between Core Ultra and Ryzen but also between a focus on performance and mobility.
