HP EliteBook X G1a: High performance Ultrabook with AMD Ryzen AI

HP goes “all in” with AMD: For the first time, the best notebook for IT professionals, the EliteBook X, comes with Team Red’s CPUs. The new HP EliteBook X G1a looks set to be a productivity monster, thanks to AMD Ryzen AI 300, dual-fan cooling, and a large battery.

HP relies much more heavily on AMD. However, the most expensive HP EliteBooks in the 1000 series have always been exclusively available with Intel CPUs. Until now: The new HP EliteBook X, the successor to the EliteBook 1000, is being released with the first AMD model in the series, the HP EliteBook X G1a.

The heart of the new EliteBook is the latest AMD Ryzen AI Pro 300. Unlike the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 AMD, HP’s new high-performance ultrabook places a much greater focus on achieving the highest possible performance. HP has implemented a design with two fans, allowing the system to consume up to 40 W—a power limit that is practically twice as high as most other business laptops.

HP has also upped the ante in battery capacity, installing a sizeable 74.5-watt-hour battery in a casing that is only 18.1 mm thick. This means that the 14-inch notebook promises good battery life for frequent travelers. However, they also have to contend with the comparatively high weight – the HP EliteBook X weighs at least 1.49 kg.

Regarding the EliteBook X G1a’s screen, customers can choose between a simple WUXGA panel (1,920 x 1,200) based on IPS and a premium display with 2.8K resolution (2,880 x 1,800) with OLED technology. Both achieve a brightness value of 400 cd/m². The IPS screen only covers the sRGB color space, while the OLED monitor covers the more expansive DCI-P3 color space.

The new HP EliteBook offers HDMI, USB A, and three USB C ports, two of which support Thunderbolt 4. One of the USB C ports is on the right so that the EliteBook can be charged from both sides.
