HP Elite Dragonfly Max with High-resolution Webcam for Professional Video Conferencing

HP Elite Dragonfly Max is the first 2 in 1 laptop touchscreen model is praised for its 5-megapixel webcam! Yes, this is not an alternative universe but the reality we live in. Even the most expensive MacBooks and Windows convertibles still rely on simple 720p webcams, even in zoom times, the new Dragonfly Max convertible laptop is hopefully the start of a little more megapixel craze for laptop webcams.

It’s 2021, just under a year after we started using Zoom and other video conferencing tools to keep in touch with fellow human beings, friends, and business partners. While the latter has become better and more diverse, the webcams built into laptops and convertibles are de facto at the level of 2005 when the HD-ready standard slowly made the 720p resolution popular.

While 32-megapixel selfie cams are almost standard in cell phones and 8-megapixel cameras – the basis for 4K video – can be found in even the cheapest entry-level cell phones, laptops remain ultra-conservative with 720p webcams, even with the latest MacBooks from Apple nothing better to offer here. As far as we know, no more than 2-megapixel webcams have been installed on any notebook tablet.

We are curious to see whether the Elite Dragonfly Max HP 2 in 1 laptop, which HP presented together with its cheaper brother Elite Dragonfly G2 at CES 2021, can set a new minimum standard here because the integrated 5-megapixel webcam with IR function for Windows Hello is still not good enough for 4K video conferencing, but it should at least result in significantly better image quality than usual.

The HP Elite Dragonfly Max is a very light 13.3-inch business convertible laptop with a magnesium chassis and Intel Tiger Lake vPro chip and as such are probably not exactly cheap, it also gets 4 microphones for better audio quality during video chats and especially addresses those who want to communicate professionally with others online.
