Hasselblad, the renowned Swedish brand, has launched the first fixed lens in its “P” (Portable) series — the high-quality Hasselblad XCD 75mm F3.4 P medium format lens. With a full-frame equivalent focal length of 59mm, this compact prime lens is ideal for street, portrait, and documentary photography.
The F/3.4 aperture offers a depth of field similar to F/2.8 on a full-frame camera, making it well-suited for portrait photography with a shallow depth of field. Capable of resolving 100 MP sensors on Hasselblad cameras, the lens weighs just 398 grams.
This professional camera lens consists of 10 optical elements in 10 groups, including one aspherical and three ED elements, delivering high-resolution imaging across the entire frame, even at wider apertures. Like other XCD series lenses, it has been designed to meet the needs of high-resolution photography, ensuring sharpness and clarity for medium format cameras.
The XCD 75mm F3.4 P lens features a compact build that emphasizes portability. It aligns with the P series’ focus on lightweight, easy-to-carry options. For photographers needing faster portrait lenses, Hasselblad offers other prime lenses, such as the XCD 90mm F/2.5 V.
The portable series also includes the Hasselblad XCD 28mm F/4 P and the Hasselblad XCD 45mm F/4 P. The latter was recognized in 2020 as the lightest autofocus lens for medium format cameras.
Measuring 7 cm in length and weighing 398 g, the XCD 75mm F/3.4 P lens features Hasselblad’s signature metal design. It includes the distinctive “H” pattern around the focus ring. Its lightweight linear stepping motor ensures responsive autofocus, supported by a compact focusing lens group engineered for speed.
Hasselblad XCD 75mm F3.4 P price and release date
Now available for $2,229 at retailers like B&H Photo and Adorama, the Hasselblad XCD 75mm F/3.4 P expands Hasselblad’s XCD lineup. It brings the total to 13 medium format lenses.
Like all lenses in the Hasselblad X system, this model includes a leaf shutter. It enables shutter speeds up to 1/2000th of a second with full flash synchronization at any speed. The leaf shutter sets Hasselblad apart from competitors in the medium format lens market.
Hasselblad has also introduced the X Extension Tube (9mm), compatible with X System and 907X cameras. This extension tube increases the distance between the lens and the image sensor. It reduces the minimum focusing distance, enhancing close-up capabilities. The X Extension Tube is available for $299.
