Google has presented three new home surveillance cameras as well as a cheaper and more flexible wireless video doorbell, which, unlike the older model, can be operated completely wirelessly via a battery if desired.

Google has announced a whole range of new Nest products. It starts with the Nest Doorbell with battery, a new smart video doorbell that can be used completely wirelessly if desired – the battery lasts between one and six months, depending on usage, and is charged via a USB-C port on the back of the video door bell. Videos are recorded in portrait format with 960 x 1280 pixels at 30 frames per second, night vision and HDR modes are standard.

If desired, the Nest Video Doorbell with battery can also be wired so that it does not have to be charged – the battery is still useful, for example in the event of a power failure. As soon as the doorbell detects movement in front of their front door, the owner receives a notification with a video clip to see who is at the door. Since Google has built-in a microphone and loudspeaker, you can talk to the person in front of the door, even if you are not at home.

The camera surveillance saves the video clips from the last three hours – if you want a history of up to 30 days, you have to take out a Nest Aware subscription, which also applies to all other Nest home surveillance cameras. The Nest Doorbell with battery can now be pre-ordered from Bhphotovideo.com, Adorama.com, and Bestbuy.com for $199.99, with delivery starting on August 24th.

In addition to wireless video doorbell, Google has introduced three new surveillance cameras wireless: an indoor camera for $99.99, an outside camera with a battery for $199.99 that does not depend on a power socket and that can be placed as easily indoors as outdoors, and a Nest Cam with floodlights for $299.99. The Nest Cam with a battery can also be operated from an electrical outlet via a cable.

Each version of the new Nest Cam records HDR videos in 1080p resolution with a field of view of 130 degrees diagonally, and you can talk to people in front of the camera through microphones and speakers. One of the more interesting innovations is that the video clips are now processed locally on the cameras instead of in the cloud, which on the one hand better protects the privacy and on the other hand should enable more reliable and faster movement and object detection.

Back in April, the Amazon subsidiary Ring, known primarily for its smart home security video doorbells, has also introduced two new smart home security products. These are the new Ring Video Doorbell 4 and the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro outdoor security camera.
