GFX100RF: Fujifilm’s 100MP Medium Format Camera Unveiled

The brand-new GFX100RF is Fujifilm’s first medium-format compact camera. Notably, it features a vast 102-megapixel sensor while maintaining a lightweight 735-gram body, making it truly unique. Fujifilm also offers several unusual features.

The Fujifilm GFX100RF is intended to build on the success of the X100 VI but achieve even better image quality thanks to its 102-megapixel medium-format sensor. RF stands for “Rangefinder Style, Fixed Lens,” which describes the camera’s form factor.

The GFX100RF features a classic Fujifilm design, with a silver or black metal body and a black leather exterior. With an aperture ring on the lens, dedicated shutter speed, and ISO dials, the camera offers full manual control without resorting to menus. However, the body also features a few special features, such as the format dial, which allows you to adjust the aspect ratio of photos from 1:1 square photos to 65:24 panoramic images. Fujifilm’s “digital teleconverter” simulates lenses with a focal length of 45 mm, 63 mm, or 80 mm through digital zoom.

To enable the compact format of the 735-gram Fujifilm GFX100RF, Fujifilm uses a low-speed 35 mm f/4 lens, corresponding to a 35 mm film equivalent of 28 mm f/3.2. To achieve high image quality, the lens utilizes ten elements in eight groups, including two with aspherical surfaces. The lens can focus on objects from a distance of just 20 centimeters, but Fujifilm calculates the focus from the lens’s front element, not the sensor, as usual. The central shutter is said to make the camera particularly quiet.

Surprisingly, Fujifilm has omitted the hybrid viewfinder found on the X100 VI from the GFX100RF, opting instead for a high-resolution 5.76 million-dot electronic viewfinder and a fold-out 3.15-inch touchscreen in 3:2 format. The camera features a 102 MP medium format sensor that can record 4K video at 30 frames per second. Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 4.2, and a fast 10 Gbps USB-C port round out the GFX100RF’s features.

Fujifilm GFX100RF Price and Release Date

The Fujifilm GFX100RF will be released in Black and Silver on April 24, 2025. In the meantime, it is already available for pre-order on B&H Photo and Adorama for $4,899.
