Garmin has recently unveiled two new GPS navigation devices, the Foretrex 801 and Foretrex 901, designed to be worn on the wrist. These new Garmin GPS navigation systems are not only robust, but also offer features such as email and SMS alerts, and some models even have ballistic functions.
Traditionally, wristwatches and smartwatches are worn on the wrist. However, Garmin has proven that there is enough space to accommodate an entire GPS navigation device with its latest offerings. The Foretrex 801 and Foretrex 901 expand Garmin’s range of small, sturdy navigation devices designed to be worn on the wrist.
The Garmin GPS navigation systems are equipped with advanced navigation sensors such as a 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis compass, and barometric altimeter, as well as multi-frequency reception for precise positioning accuracy. Navigation functions like TracBack, waypoint, route, and track navigation assist with orientation. Additionally, the devices have a stealth mode, a kill switch, and a Jumpmaster function for skydivers. The Foretrex 901 also comes with a complex ballistics calculator.
The Garmin GPS navigation systems have a 2.2-inch monochrome display that is easy to read under difficult lighting conditions and with night vision goggles, according to the manufacturer. It is operated using five buttons. The devices are particularly durable and well-equipped for outdoor adventures, thanks to their IPX7 certification and compliance with the MIL-STD-810 military standard.
When paired with a smartphone, these navigation devices can notify users of emails, SMS, and alerts, making them a suitable replacement for smartwatches to some extent. The Garmin Explore app allows for independent planning of future expeditions. Additionally, both devices provide automatic uploads to Garmin Connect, live tracking, and several other features.
