It has a bright AMOLED display, a relatively long battery life, and convenient features like Garmin Pay. Garmin’s latest smartwatch is said to offer advanced fitness functions that can compete with many dive computers.
Garmin markets the new Descent G2 as a “dive computer in the form of a smartwatch,” targeting a specific audience. Still, the watch also has all the features needed to serve as a full-fledged smartwatch. The exceptionally bright 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen starts this off. Sapphire glass protects it from scratches, though Garmin does not share specific brightness data.
The watch can display incoming notifications and make contactless payments using Garmin Pay. You can download third-party apps, watch faces, and data fields from the Garmin Connect IQ Store. The Garmin Descent G2 supports more than 100 sports modes, cycle tracking, and sleep tracking. It has a heart rate sensor that can also determine heart rate variability, a SpO2 sensor, and a GPS module to record the distance covered when running or cycling.
The manufacturer made the Descent G2 case from plastic collected and recycled from the ocean. They developed it according to the EN 13319 standard, making the watch suitable for dives up to 100 meters. As a dive computer, the watch offers numerous functions specially developed for divers, including inductive buttons that work smoothly underwater and an advanced dive mode for recreational and sports divers that the user can customize to display the desired data.

The entry and exit points can be logged using GPS. A diving readiness rating shows how fit the user is for diving, taking into account sleep, jet lag, and stress, among other things. A three-axis underwater compass makes navigation underwater easier. The watch also shows the current diving depth and the speed at which users descend or ascend. The smartwatch has a battery life of ten days with regular use, four days with the always-on display activated, and 27 hours in diving mode.
