After there have already been various leaks, Garmin has now officially presented its two new models, the Forerunner 255 and Forerunner 955. The Forerunner 255 is the cheaper of the two new smart GPS running watches and the successor to the Forerunner 245 (approx. $266 on Amazon).

An important improvement is significantly longer battery life. While the predecessor only lasted up to 7 days in smartwatch mode, it is now up to 14 days. In GPS mode, the watch only has to be put back on the charger after up to 30 hours.

As you know from Garmin, the GPS running watch offers not only precise positioning via GPS, GLONASS, and GALILEO and a barometric altimeter but also a large number of fitness and health features, some of which are new. The focus on runners remains, but the Garmin 255 Forerunner also has a triathlon function. When tracking, it provides important data such as speed, distance, and heart rate. There is also additional information such as VO2max, acute stress, extended training status, training effects, and more.

The Garmin Coach and daily training suggestions for a whole week provide support during training. Sports apps such as cardio, strength, or HIIT as well as workouts including animated exercises are just as much part of the equipment as all-day health tracking including heart rate measurement, body battery, stress level and pulse ox, respiratory rate, cycle and pregnancy tracking, extended sleep analysis, and activity tracking. Contactless payment can be made with Garmin Pay, and Smart Notifications deliver notifications from the smartphone directly to the smartwatch.

Garmin 255 price and availability

The Garmin Forerunner 255 is available now with a recommended retail price of $349.99 on the Adorama.com and Amazon.com websites. The smartwatch is available as the Forerunner 255S with a diameter of 41 mm in the two-color variants antique pink and light gray and as the Forerunner 255 with 46 mm in dark blue and slate gray. Alternatively, there is the Forerunner 255 Music with integrated music playback and memory for up to 500 songs for $50 more, which is also available in two sizes and two colors.
