Fujifilm X-E5 Camera with XF 23mm F2.8 R WR Lens Announced

Fujifilm, as expected, presented a new camera — Fujifilm X-E5. Its external design is made for a film rangefinder camera and is quite similar to the popular Fujifilm X100 VI. However, the new mirrorless camera received support for interchangeable optics, a tilting display with the ability to tilt up for shooting in selfie mode, a film simulation selection dial, and a weight of 445 grams.

Updated image processing algorithms made it possible to open ISO 125 as a native sensitivity (previously available only as an extended option), and the electronic shutter now supports a maximum speed of 1/180,000 seconds. Fujifilm also released a special lens with an 11-blade aperture for this camera: the Fujinon XF 23mm F2.8 R WR.

The Fujifilm X-E5 camera borrows some design solutions from the Fuji X100VI model. However, it also boasts several of its innovations.

Quick Access to Film Simulations

For example, a film simulation dial. With its help, you can quickly select a preset without needing to access the menu and shoot with it. The dial sits in the upper left part of the case, and the window clearly displays the selected preset.

This dial allows you to select several popular film simulation modes as well as your own presets (up to three).

Fujifilm based the X-E5’s electronic viewfinder on the design of classic film cameras and introduced a new Classic display mode.

The viewfinder shows information in a vintage red format, and it places exposure compensation details on the side.

The Fujifilm X-E5 also features a new Surround View mode that displays a black, translucent, or outlined area outside the image, depending on the user’s preference.

You can switch between these three options using the control lever on the front of the camera.

Many photographers will appreciate the tilting design of the rear LCD, which they can raise above the camera to use as a selfie screen.

40.2MP Sensor with Enhanced Processing

Fujifilm equipped the camera with a 40.2-megapixel X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor and updated image processing algorithms. According to the company, these improvements demonstrate that the camera can achieve high resolution while maintaining a strong signal-to-noise ratio.

The company also states that the improved pixel structure enables more efficient light capture. ISO 125 is now available as a native sensitivity (previously only available as an extended option), and the electronic shutter supports shutter speeds of 1/180,000 of a second.

Advanced Image Stabilization System

The Fujifilm X-E5 sensor features a new image stabilization algorithm (IBIS), complemented by an upgraded gyro sensor. This combination provides five-axis stabilization with up to 7 stops of stabilization in the center and 6 stops at the periphery.

There are intelligent object detection modes for various objects, including animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, planes, trains, insects, and drones. The company’s latest predictive AF algorithms offer a familiar AF tracking experience for both moving subjects and those in low-contrast conditions.

The Fujifilm X-E5 received support for video recording in 6.2K 10-bit resolution at up to 30 fps (with an additional 1.23x crop). Naturally, autofocus is also supported in video. Also available modes: 4K up to 60 fps (1.14x) or FHD up to 240 fps. 4K 30fps 10-bit recording is available across the entire width of the sensor.

The benefit of the high 40MP resolution is that you can utilize the new 1.4x and 2x digital teleconverter modes, which provide effective equivalent focal lengths of 56mm and 80mm, respectively (when used with the included Fujinon XF 23mm F/2.8 R WR kit lens).

There is also support for shooting video in a flat F-Log profile.

Fujifilm X-E5 Price and Release Date

The Fujifilm X-E5 is scheduled for release on August 28, 2025. You can choose from kits with the Fujinon XF 23mm F2.8 R WR lens in silver and black colors for $1,899, as well as just the camera for $1,699 on B&H Photo, Adorama, and Amazon.co.uk.

The camera comes with a Fujinon XF 23mm F2.8 R WR interchangeable lens, which is very similar to the one found in the Fujifilm X100VI.

The lens consists of 8 elements arranged in six groups, including two aspherical lenses. It features an aperture range of f/2.8 to f/16 and an 11-blade diaphragm. This lens can be controlled via the camera or the aperture and focus rings.

Fujifilm has equipped the Fujinon XF 23mm F2.8 R WR with a full-group focusing system that suppresses aberration variation based on the focus position, allowing high-quality shots even at close range. A built-in DC motor drives this system, enabling fast autofocus performance.

Fujifilm sealed the lens against dust and moisture at nine points and designed it to operate in temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius. The company claims users can safely use it in light rain, cold weather, or dusty environments.

The lens will be available separately in silver and black versions in late 2025 for $499 at B&H Photo and Adorama online stores.
