Wileyfox has announced a new initiative that allows users to buy its devices with up to 43% discount. The only condition is you have to accept pre-installed software, called Add-X, which shows advertisements on the lock screen.
This type of proposal is similar to that offered by Amazon on its Prime phones, Kindle and Fire tablets will have no impact on the devices’ performance which confirmed by the manufacturer. If you for some reason decide to have these removed, the company will charge a £40 fee, after which an update will be pushed that will disable the Add-X platform within the next 24 hours.
Just like any other advertising platform, ads will automatically adapt to display size by displaying offers relevant to user interests as well as gender and date of birth to display relevant advertisements.
Just a few days ago, Google announced the new developer policies to ban any app that inserts ads on the lock screen with the intent to monetize. However, Wileyfox has confirmed that its service does not violate any new standard since the additional component is not an app.
