Fossil has officially introduced its new Gen 6 Smartwatch with Snapdragon wear 4100. Google’s new Wear OS will not get the new Fossil smartwatches until next year.
Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch brings some improvements compared to Gen 5E, which is currently on sale at Amazon for $174.30. Under the hood, Fossil installed the Snapdragon Wear 4100+, which is paired with 6 GB of memory. The new wearable chip from Qualcomm is said to offer 30 percent higher performance than the previous model. This makes it the fastest Fossil smartwatch to date.
The new chip also benefits battery consumption. Fossil speaks of battery life of up to 24 hours. Optionally, this can be extended even further using the low-power mode with a limited range of functions. The battery is 80 percent charged again within 30 minutes.
In addition to Bluetooth 5, WiFi, and NFC for contactless numbers, a SpO2 sensor for measuring oxygen saturation in the blood is also installed for the first time. The heart rate is tracked with an improved sensor compared to Gen 5.
In addition, there are the usual and well-known functions such as sleep tracking, GPS tracking, and more. However, the new wearable is initially delivered with the old Wear OS. The version Wear OS 3, which was newly introduced by Google this year, will not be installed from the start, but will not be available until 2022 via an update with further improvements.
