Fossil has introduced a brand new line of smartwatches called the Gen 5E. The Fossil Gen 5E is almost identical to the existing Gen 5 watches, but there is now a smaller 42 mm version. In terms of technology, some compromises have to be accepted, which must have been made in favor of the lower price.
Fossil has presented a brand new version of its popular Gen 5 Fossil watches for men (from $283 on Amazon). However, this is not a brand new generation based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100, but a slightly adapted variant of the existing platform, which is offered as Gen 5E.
Just like Gen 5, Gen 5E uses a Snapdragon Wear 3100, 1 GB of RAM, and Google Wear OS. The smartwatch has a round, 1.19-inch AMOLED display, NFC, and a 300 mAh battery that lasts between a day and a week, depending on the mode. The 12 mm thin watch is available in the sizes 42 mm and 44 mm, so that the smallest model is a bit more compact than the Gen 5.
In order to save costs, the flash memory was reduced from 8 GB to 4 GB, the integrated GPS was removed, so that a smartphone has to be brought along, for example, to record the distance covered while running. The compass, ambient light sensor, and altimeter are also missing. The Gen 5E Fossil smartwatch still has a crown, but the company has omitted the two additional buttons on this model.

The Fossil Gen 5E smartwatch is now available to pre-order on Amazon.com and will ship from October 25th at a price of $277.50 for the bundle offer including Black color Fossil Unisex 22mm Silicone Interchangeable Watch Band Strap.
