Focal Clear MG Professional: The New Reference for Studio Headphones?

Focal Clear MG Professional is aimed directly at sound engineers and producers, according to Focal. The new studio headphones should trump the “old” Clear Professional in terms of performance. What has the manufacturer thought about to achieve this?

The first Clear Professional Focal headphones already put on a full-range transducer with an inverted M-shaped n 40 mm dome made of aluminum and magnesium. After four years of research, the engineers have now come to the conclusion that construction made of pure magnesium achieves even better properties for the drivers.

The Clear MG Professional are over ear headphones with an open-back design. According to the manufacturer, the new magnesium dome ensures convincing dynamics and detailed reproduction of the frequency spectrum.

The opening of the external auricle is now wider than its predecessor. According to Focal, this benefits not only the sound but also the spatial representation. The new honeycomb structure follows the profile of the speaker driver and promises more precise treble reproduction. With a response of up to 24 kHz, the highs are transmitted particularly linearly, according to Focal, transients remain untouched. The new diaphragm also works in combination with a frameless copper voice coil that is 1″ in diameter and 0.25″ in height.

Of course, the French manufacturer also wants the new open back headphones to be comfortable. Sometimes it gets a bit uncomfortable, especially with long sessions. The headband design aims to counteract this and distribute the weight of the headphones evenly over the skull by means of a constant curve.

The scope of delivery includes two OFC 24 AWG copper cables (a 5 m long spiral cable and a 1.2 m long straight cable) with a 3.5 mm jack plug, an adapter to a 6.35 mm jack, a thermoformed transport bag, and replacement earpads.
