The Fire HD 8 has been refreshed for 2024 and promises better performance thanks to a RAM upgrade. The 12th-generation tablet also comes in kid-friendly editions that offer better protection and come in fun colors.
Amazon has refreshed the Fire HD 8 tablet for 2024. The 12th generation tablet takes the same design as the previous generation but brings improvements in terms of performance, among others.
The Fire HD 8 (2024) retains the previous generation’s 8-inch (1280 x 800) IPS display. It still has thick bezels and is housed in the same polycarbonate body. It’s available in Black, Emerald, and Hibiscus.
The main changes are under the hood. It now has 3GB of RAM for the 32GB version and 4GB of RAM for the 64GB version. This is a significant improvement over the 2GB of RAM available for both storage variants on the 2022 edition. The tablet still has a 2.0GHz hexa-core processor, but the additional RAM should help improve performance.
Amazon also upgraded the rear camera from 2MP to 5MP, but the front camera remains a 2MP sensor. It has dual-band Wi-Fi but doesn’t support Wi-Fi 6. It has an audio jack, Bluetooth 5.2, and a 13-hour battery life, just like the 2022 edition. It doesn’t charge any faster, and while it supports fast charging up to 15W, Amazon has chosen to ship it with a 5W adapter.

No 2024 device is complete without AI, and the new Fire HD 8 (2024) is no exception. It includes AI features like a writing assistant integrated into the device’s keyboard, working across emails, Word documents, and social media. Users can select preset writing styles, convert casual texts to professional ones, and receive writing suggestions.
AI has also been integrated into the Silk browser, which can now summarize online articles. Additionally, Amazon has introduced a wallpaper creator that allows users to enter prompts to generate high-resolution wallpapers. This feature isn’t exclusive to the Fire HD 8 (2024) but will also be available to all compatible Fire tablets later this month.
Fire HD 8 (2024) price and availability
The Fire HD 8 (2024) is available to buy right now on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. The good news is that it is available at a significant discount until October 9. The Fire HD 8 32GB tablet with Alexa is $54.99 instead of $99.99, while the 4GB + 64GB version is $84.99 instead of $129.99. If you want them without the lock screen ads, the price drops to $69.99 ($114.99) and $99.99 ($144.99), respectively.
As usual, there are also kid-friendly versions of the tablet. These are the Fire HD 8 Kids and the Fire HD 8 Kids Pro. Both start at $69.99 (original price $139.99) and come with rugged cases in various colors and Disney/Marvel editions.
