FiiO ‘s flagship portable DAC Amp model Q5s has just received a slight upgrade with a newer Bluetooth decoder along with a USB-C connector called FiiO Q5s Type-C with AM3D Amp Module.
Inside the FiiO Q5s Type-C are still two AKM AK4493 DAC chips and one XMOS XUF208 USB Receiver chip that can decode formats like DSD 512 and PCM 768kHz. The input ports such as Optical / Coaxial / Line-In remain the same, but the USB port for connecting phones and computers is changed to Type-C for more convenience.
In addition, the FiiO Q5s Type-C digital to analog audio converter will come with the AM3D amp module (Fiio Q5s usually come with the AM3E). AM3D amp module uses 2 THX AAA-78 amplifiers to output in a full-balance mode for 4.4mm port, with the highest quality sound of the company. This is the reason why the price of FiiO Q5s Type-C is higher than the regular version.
The biggest change inside the FiiO Q5s USB DAC is the replacement of the frequently used CSR8675 chip in FiiO products with a newer and the QCC5124, more premium chip from Qualcomm. This helps the product fully support advanced codecs and the connection is more stable, supporting more codecs including aptX Adaptive.
The AM3D is an independent amp module being certified by THX, in order to further improve sound quality, the Q5s Type-C utilizes the XMOS XUF208 USB decoding chip paired with a precise clock matching managment system, allowing for supports up to 768kHz/32 bit PCM and hardware-decoded native DSD, so you can be sure of excellent sound no matter what format your music is in.
