Undoubtedly, the market of personal assistants promotes and attracts manufacturers and companies quickly. The example was launched last month of Facebook’s Portal and Portal Plus smart display, and there was a Smart Camera feature that basically follows you as you move around the house, thus allowing calls without worrying about regulating the camera.
However, in this category, we already have gadgets like Amazon’s Echo line and Google’s Home Hub, require differentiation and the utility of the device to bring the difference between the device and the utility.
Knowing this, Facebook is constantly announcing new applications to reach the device, such as Spotify, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Food Network and Pandora and now YouTube.
According to TechCrunch, the use of the YouTube application is now available to the owners of the Facebook Smart Display devices, and downloading the official store is essential.
To activate the application is very simple, just say “Hey Portal” voice command, but that’s pretty much it in terms of hands-free functionality. After its activation, all interaction should be done through the touchscreen, which makes the experience somewhat uncomfortable and impractical.
Anyway, this is good news for people who want to invest in the smart display. For now, there is no information on the arrival of more video apps such as Hulu, Amazon Prime or Netflix, but on the basis of agility to provide access to YouTube, it would not be surprising if we see news in that direction soon.
