DZOfilm has announced the sub-$3,000 Pictor 12-25mm T2.8, a wide-angle parfocal lens system designed for Super35 cameras.
A zoom lens is an addition to the company’s Pictor line, which includes 14-30mm, 20-55mm, and 50-125mm T2.8. DZOFilm positions these lenses as versatile due to their wide zoom range and a short minimum focusing distance of 0.4 meters at the wide end, which allows for relatively close focusing, especially considering the crop factor of the Super35 cameras.
The Pictor 12-25mm T2.8 consists of 21 elements in 15 groups and has a 16-blade aperture range from T2.8 to T22. The lens body is made of aluminum alloy and weighs 1.6 kg.
The super zoom camera lens has a parfocal design, which means that the subject remains in focus even when the focal length changes, allowing you to zoom in on your subject without refocusing.
DZOFilm claims the lens has excellent control over the field of view curvature and optical distortion, allowing it to deliver edge-to-edge sharpness throughout its zoom range. The company also claims “minor” focus breathing for smooth transitions in all sorts of scenes shot up or down. The lens only has manual focus but comes with preset focus mechanisms.
The lens can be purchased with PL or Canon EF mounts, but they are interchangeable. In addition, the 12-25mm T2.8, like all DZOFilm Pictor lenses, can be adapted to E, RF, L, X, or Z mounts using the company’s Octopus range of adapters.
Price and availability
The DZOFilm Pictor 12-25mm T2.8 is available in black or white, although white is more expensive, with black trim priced at $2,889 and white expected by the end of February at $3,089. Both lens options are already available for pre-order on the Bhphotovideo.com website.

Venus Optics recently announced new Laowa Proteus 2x Anamorphic cinema lenses. Anamorphic optics with focal lengths of 35mm, 45mm, 60mm, and 85mm were introduced – all optics have a T2 aperture.
