Polk Audio Signa S4 Soundbar with Dolby Atmos and eARC

Polk Audio released its first soundbar capable of supporting Dolby Atmos. The Signa S4 Dolby Atmos sound bar looks like a canonical system: the central body is flanked by an external wireless subwoofer dedicated to low frequencies. The design is simple: the lines are minimalist and have rounded edges. The color choice is unique: the S4 sports a black livery.

The central body measures 1,046 (L) x 95 (W) x 60 (H) millimeters while for the wireless subwoofer we are talking about 200 (L) × 328 (D) × 280 (H) millimeters. The proposed configuration consists of 3.1.2 channels. The Polk soundbar contains the front, the central, and two height channels. Inside the Polk sound bar, we find two 25 mm tweeters, two 120 x 40 mm mid-woofers, and a 25 mm full range that acts as the center. On the upper side, there are two 66 mm transducers dedicated to the vertical expansion of the sound. The subwoofer is instead equipped with a 150 mm woofer.

The lack of surround channels, the rear ones, is compensated for through sound virtualization. The processing can also be applied to non-Dolby Atmos sources, thus creating an up-mix of the tracks useful for exploiting all the available channels. The center channel can optimize the rendering of voices through the patented VoiceAdjust technology, developed to improve the intelligibility of dialogues, especially when listening at low volume at night.

Signa S4 is equipped with the Bass Adjust function to change the bass settings of both the subwoofer and the soundbar. Users can also choose three pre-set modes, two dedicated to listening to movies and music and one for late-hour use. The latter attenuates the bass and accentuates the clarity of the dialogue. Signa S4 supports Dolby Atmos audio, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, MPEG-2 AAC, MPEG-4 AAC, and Linear PCM formats (7.1 channels).

Available connections include an HDMI port with eARC (the advanced audio return channel), an optical digital input, an analog input on a 3.5mm jack, Bluetooth with SBC, and a USB-A port for firmware updates. The supplied remote control can be used to control many TV models.

Polk Audio Signa S4 price and availability

The Signa S4 Dolby Atmos Sound Bar is now available to pre-order via Adorama.com at the indicative price of $399.

Recently, Bose has also announced a new Smart Soundbar 900. The flagship Bose TV sound bar comes with plenty of equipment such as Dolby Atmos and the two voice assistants Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
