The new Dell 14 Plus laptop offers a Ryzen AI 5 340 APU, 16GB of LPDDR5-7500 RAM, a 512GB SSD, and Wi-Fi 7 for the $800 base configuration. However, there are more expensive variants with the Ryzen AI 7 350 and a 1TB SSD.

Last month, Dell introduced its new Plus line of 14-inch laptops. At that time, only Intel-based configurations based on Lunar Lake processors were available, with prices starting just above $1,000 (Amazon or B&H Photo). A few weeks later, the company expanded the list of processor options with AMD’s latest “Krackan Point” processor, bringing the starting price to $850 for the 2-in-1 form factor. Dell is lowering the entry price even further by introducing a non-convertible AMD-based variant that starts at $800.
The base configuration of the latest non-convertible Dell 14 Plus laptop includes an AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 APU processor integrating a CPU cluster with 3x full Zen 5 cores + 3x efficient Zen 5c cores totaling 12 threads up to 4.8 GHz. This APU unit also combines the RDNA3 architecture-based Radeon 840M quad-core processor and an updated NPU with 50 TOPS of processing power, bringing the total APU power to 59 TOPS.
The base configuration also includes 16GB of LPDDR5-7500 RAM and a 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. Dell also offers a Ryzen AI 7 350 with 8 cores and 14 threads and an 8-core Radeon 860M iGPU with a 1TB SSD for $950. The configuration with 32GB of RAM, the more powerful APU, and a 1TB SSD is priced at $1,150.
As with many OEMs, AMD-based models differ slightly from Intel-based ones regarding ports and features. Unlike Intel models with Lunar Lake, which offer an optional 2560 x 1600 IPS display, Thunderbolt 4, and HDMI 2.1 ports, the Dell 14 Plus laptop models with AMD APUs only provide 1920 x 1200 displays, two 10 Gbps USB-C connectors, and an older HDMI 1.4 video output. Additionally, the Intel models also come with slightly faster LPDDR-8533 RAM modules.
Otherwise, the AMD models feature a decent 1080p webcam, fast Wi-Fi 7.0 and a 10bps Wi-Fi 7 + BT USB-C interface, a fingerprint sensor on the power button, and a 64 Wh battery that should last at least 12 hours of daily use. The chassis is slim with a 17 mm profile, and the total system weight is only 1.52 kg.
Earlier this year, HP introduced the EliteBook X G1a, the best notebook for IT professionals. It comes with Team Red’s CPUs: AMD Ryzen AI 300 with dual-fan cooling and a large battery.
