ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 Turbo Review

Design

The first thing that strikes you about the DEEBOT X1 Turbo is its design. This cleaning station looks nice and is of high quality! The X1 Turbo looks a bit higher quality than the Roborox S7 MaxV Ultra.

For this, ECOVACs rely on several silver covers, which are somewhat reminiscent of metal but are certainly made of plastic. But the basic structure is classic. We have a round robo vacuum. It has a large laser sensor at the top, which takes care of navigation.

On the front, we find additional “AI” sensors as well as two small rotating brushes. These widen the catchment area of ​​the primary brush and sweep dirt out of the corners into the roadway.

What is interesting about the X1 Turbo is the dirt collection container or where it is hidden. However, to remove this, you have to remove the cover on the top. It held magnetically. Interesting!

DEEBOT X1 series

The X1 series is available in three versions Omni, Plus, and Turbo. The version selected here decides on the enclosed charging station. Our DEEBOT X1 Turbo review unit comes with a 4-liter water tank for the mopping pad. The Plus version has a suction station for the dust collection container, and the Omni model comes with a cleaning and suction station.

Our DEEBOT X1 Turbo review unit can automatically clean the included mopping pad but does not empty the dust container. You still have to empty the dust collection container manually!

The PLUS version (approx. $1000 on Amazon), on the other hand, can vacuum the dust but cannot wash the mopping pad automatically. Only the most expensive OMNI version can do both.

Small dust container

Unfortunately, a weakness of the newer ECOVACS floor cleaning robot is the size of the dust collection container. It is very small with the X1 Turbo! If you have multiple pets and that causes a lot of mess, unfortunately, this is sub-optimal.

Features

The DEEBOT X1 Turbo uses the classic ECOVACs app. It is one of the best apps you can find in the field of vacuum robots. It applies to both the use and the range of functions. It provides the live map, room/area cleaning, automatic suction power boost on carpets, voice control (directly in the vacuum robot), virtual walls, individual order of cleaning, schedule, and more.

Strong cleaning function

Certainly, a highlight of the DEEBOT X1 Turbo is the cleaning function. The vacuum robot has two rotating cleaning mops. Of course, these offer significantly higher cleaning performance than any vibrating plates, etc. So yes, the DEEBOT X1 Turbo cleans a fair bit better than the Roborock S7 MaxV!

However, the cleaning function has a downside, it doesn’t work well on carpets. If you have attached the cleaning mops, then the DEEBOT X1 Turbo will not run over carpets. Bad if, for example, you have a carpet lying across the hallway. In this case, the carpet is a hindrance. It is primarily suited for apartments with no carpet or less carpet.

Automatic cleaning

Another important feature of the DEEBOT X1 Turbo is the cleaning station. The charging station has two water tanks, a fresh water tank, and a dirty water tank.

The robot moves to the cleaning station at certain intervals to wash out or re-moisten its mop. It works perfectly and also has a great effect when you look at the dirty water.

AI and front camera

The DEEBOT X1 Turbo features an AI system. So we have a camera on the front. This camera can detect objects in front of the vacuum cleaner and avoid them accordingly.

However, there is no advanced AI feature in the app. So we will not be able to tell where and how it was identified. However, avoiding obstacles works great!

The vacuum cleaner always keeps a certain distance from obstacles and does not touch them. It also applies to smaller objects, such as pet toys, etc. It tends to make DEEBOT X1 Turbo drive a little more cautiously. Ideal if your apartment is not always perfectly tidy.

Only very tiny objects continue to be touched, such as chair legs. Otherwise, the DEEBOT X1 Turbo bypasses very well and carefully.

You can also use the front camera as a kind of surveillance camera. You can use the app to start and control the vacuum cleaner manually.

Navigation and driving behavior

In addition to the front camera and the object recognition behind it, the DEEBOT X1 Turbo also uses a more “classic” LiDAR technology.

A rotating distance meter sits in the “hump” on the top. It can measure your apartment 360 degrees around the vacuum robot and calculate the position of the robotic vacuum accordingly, recognize where to go, etc.

It is a must-have in practice because it massively improves navigation! So the vacuum robot always knows where it is, where it has been and where it still has to go.

As a result, it cannot happen that it simply leaves out rooms. If it drives past a room, sooner or later it will come back to this room.

The navigation is very safe! The robot always seems to know what else to do. However, this is not entirely unexpected for a current model from ECOVACs. They are very strong on this point, just like the Dreame or Roborock models.

We only have the feeling that the robots can cover areas a little more efficiently. But that’s complaining about a very high level! The navigation of the DEEBOT X1 Turbo is world-class!

Suction power

ECOVACs use a comparatively conservative brush for the DEEBOT X1 Turbo. It has very soft bristles and a pair of rubber lips. However, ECOVACs use a 5000pa suction motor, which is very strong!

It results in good to very good suction power in combination. As always, it’s close to “perfect” on smooth floors. Only thick dirt like paper notes etc. is often lying here and there.

Modern vacuum robots are not doing much here, to be honest. Hair, dust, etc. are reliably collected by almost all reasonably good models. The highest possible coverage is more important here. If not all areas are reached, the suction will not be perfect. However, this is a point where the DEEBOT X1 Turbo can shine, even if it does not work its way aggressively into all corners due to the careful driving style.

Carpets are more of a sample. This is where the carpet matters. Generally speaking, we would rate the suction power of the DEEBOT X1 Turbo on carpets with a “2+” to “1-”. We are on the level of the Roborock S7 MaxV here, but we have also seen models that occasionally pick up more hair.

Nevertheless, even dog hair is easily removed from carpets! You can count on the fact that after a single run-over, 98% of all hair is removed, and only a few are left behind. In practice, it is sufficient and reduces the hair occurrence massively.

Final line

The DEEBOT X1 Turbo or the DEEBOT X1 series is one of the top floor cleaning robot vacuums on the market! If you have no or only a few carpets, the X1 Turbo can even outperform the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, but let’s do it in order!

Let’s start with the basics. As you would expect from a vacuum robot of this class, the X1 offers very good navigation! Thanks to the laser sensor, the robot always knows where it is and where it still has to go. If you have a slightly more complex apartment with more rooms and passageways, then the DEEBOT X1 Turbo is suitable! Nothing is left out here, as can be the case with cheaper models.

The X1 Turbo generally drives very carefully. It is partly thanks to integrated object recognition. The vacuum robot avoids touching as much as possible. Even if pet toys are lying around, the robot will avoid them. As a result, the robot gets caught less or not at all. It is impressive to see how safe and well the ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 Turbo navigates.

In addition, there is the best cleaning function that you can currently find on a vacuum robot! The rotating cleaning mops do a much better job than a vibrating plate or something similar. Of course, the X1 won’t get rid of old stain spots, but can easily remove light dust, and the tiles will get a different shine when wiped than just vacuuming.

The suction power of the DEEBOT X1 Turbo is also good! From our point of view, it is better than the T9 AIVI and +- on the level of the Roborock S7. It applies to both smooth floors and carpets.

However, the DEEBOT X1 Turbo is not a vacuum robot for apartments with a lot of carpets! Why? If you have mounted the cleaning mops on the X1 Turbo, it cannot drive on carpets! For carpet cleaning, you have to remove the cleaning mops manually. So if you have carpets lying across the apartment, they are difficult to reconcile with the good cleaning function. It makes the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra a little better, which can raise its plaster plate.

In addition to the somewhat small dust collection container, this is more or less our last criticism.

The ECOVACs app is among the best you can find on a robot vacuum, the voice control is a nice bonus, the design is great, and the cleaning station does a good job. We find the surcharge on the OMNI version, which can wash the mops and vacuum dust, a bit high, but technically the “Turbo” version is already perfect.

It’s actually pretty cool how the vacuum robot occasionally returns to its station to clean its mops, so they’re always fresh.

In short, the ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 Turbo is a good robot vacuum and mop, in many respects even better than the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra! However, we would recommend the robot if you have few or no carpets. We would also strongly recommend the OMNI version (approx. $1,400 on Amazon) if you have a lot of dust (due to the small dust container).
