The newly launched Corsair EX400U aims to impress with its incredible speed. When connected to a computer via USB 4 or Thunderbolt 4, the SSD can achieve sequential read speeds of up to 4,000MB/s and write speeds of up to 3,600MB/s.

This all-new external SSD features a USB-C interface with 40Gbps bandwidth, allowing real-world data transfer speeds of up to 4,000MB/s. The compact USB 4 SSD is also backward compatible with slower USB-C ports.
While the Corsair EX400U doesn’t quite match the performance of PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSDs, like the Samsung 990 Evo Plus, it is significantly faster than many competing USB-C external storage solutions. For example, the Samsung T9 (starting at $128 / £114 on Amazon) has a maximum speed of 2,000 MB/s. The Corsair EX400U can be connected to older, slower USB-C ports, but this will result in reduced speeds.

The SSD enclosure measures 2.5 x 2.5 inches and weighs 3.2 ounces. It features a sleek gray design with a single USB-C port, the Corsair logo, and a minor white status LED. One unique aspect of the Corsair EX400U is its ability to magnetically attach to the back of an Apple iPhone via MagSafe. It helps record ProRes videos and save large files directly to the SSD.
