Tokina SZ Super Tele 500mm F8 Reflex MF catadioptric telephoto lens is officially presented. It is a manual focus super-telephoto lens that will work with six different full-frame and crop camera systems using the T-adapter system: Canon EF, Fuji X, Micro Four Thirds, Nikon F, Nikon Z, and Sony E.
The catadioptric optical design consists of seven elements in seven groups. The lens has a fixed aperture of F8 and a minimum focusing distance of 1.7 m. The thread diameter for installing a filter in the front is 72 mm, and in the rear, it is 30.5 mm. But the most interesting thing in the case of Reflex optics is the size and weight, the new lens is no exception: its base length is only 89 mm, its diameter is 74 mm, and it weighs 310 g. And this is with a focal length of 500 mm!
It is a compact and – importantly – budget alternative to standard telephoto lenses, for those users who would like to occasionally shoot at telefocus, but are not ready to carry heavy and bulky optics, we mean active travel photographers. In addition, the manufacturer has provided the possibility of using the lens with almost all camera systems.
The lens did not receive a stabilization mechanism, since the manufacturer relies on effective stabilization systems for modern cameras.
The large focal length of the Tokina SZ Super TELE 500mm F8 Reflex MF will allow you to achieve the so-called super-compression effect, bringing the background closer and larger concerning the main object. There is also a special bokeh pattern, appreciated by many users.
The lens can also be used for macro photography. The diagonal angle of view is 4°8′, and the minimum focusing distance is 1.7m. It provides a magnification of 1:2.86 to capture a 6x9cm subject in a full-frame. These properties can help, for example, to shoot close-ups of insects without frightening.
