Canon has launched the new compact 4K UHD professional camcorder XF605, which represents the next generation of the “Canon XF” series. Modern, intelligent AF technology, as is already known from still cameras and some Canon cinema cameras, is making its way into the class of compact professional 4K camcorder. The XF605 4K video camera is an ideal tool for one-man reporting and is also equipped for IP streaming.
The new XF605 is positioned between the recently withdrawn XF405 and the even more powerful XF705. The best camcorder can record in strong 4K-UHD @ 60p / 50p in 4: 2: 2 with 10-bit image quality and in Full HD with up to 120 fps. With a “1.0-inch type CMOS” sensor (effective resolution 3280 x 2160 px) and the “DIGIC DV 7” image processor, this cam corder serves the level of performance in a professional environment. It has a 15x zoom of the L lens series. It has a physical focal length of 8.3-124.5mm, which corresponds to a 35mm focal length of 25.5-382.5mm. Its light intensity starts in the wide angle range at 1: 2.8 and in the telephoto range at 1: 4.5. The zoom has nine aperture blades.
The XF605 videocamera offers a variety of custom image options that can be adjusted to suit different needs, including HDR (HLG / PQ), Canon Log3, and custom look files. This ensures more flexibility in post-production or on-site.
The 5-axis image stabilizer comes from the XF and XA series, so the XF605 also impresses with dynamic shots with a steady image. Four IS modes are available that combine various settings in Standard, Dynamic and Powered IS. In practice, the best and most effective IS mode can be selected for every recording situation. With its high-magnification L-series 4K lens, the XF605 achieves a 15x optical zoom in 4K and a 30x extended zoom in Full HD.
The XF605 has the fast and precise “Canon Dual Pixel CMOS AF” technology with EOS iTR AF X, which for the first time in the XF series offers AF with eye detection and intelligent head detection and tracking. This advanced focus system ensures that a person remains in focus even if they turn away from the camera. With the new touchscreen user interface, the subjects to be focused on can be selected quickly and intuitively and the screen settings, menu navigation, and playback can be controlled.
The Canon XF605 weighs only approx. 2 kg (housing without accessories) and is therefore around 10 percent smaller and 600 g lighter than the XF705. The 4K camcorder was specially developed for the self-sufficient use of a one-man team and combines mobility with a practical new multifunctional accessory shoe that expands the possibilities of the XF605.
The camcorder follows the growing trend towards live streaming and offers IP streaming that supports multiple protocols. In addition, it enables remote control in multi-camera operation and, in addition to the Canon PTZ cameras, also supports USB Video Class (UVC) for use as a webcam via a USB-C cable.
The XF605 is a flexible camcorder that fits seamlessly into existing workflows. With two SD card slots and various recording options, different file formats, resolutions, color samples, and proxy files can be recorded simultaneously on separate SD cards. It is also possible to output the image simultaneously via 12G-SDI and HDMI connections, which can be fed into any combination of monitors, broadcast, and recording systems to support both live and pre-recorded workflows.
The XF605 is ideal for on-site reporting. It is compatible with the new Canon Content Transfer Mobile (CTM) app (only available for iPhone), with which the metadata can be edited before and after the recording. In addition, the recordings can be transferred from the camcorder to the mobile device and from there z. B. be stored on the client’s server.
