In addition to the two telephoto lenses RF 400mm f2.8L IS USM and RF 600mm f4L IS USM as well as EOS R3 Canon full frame mirrorless camera, Canon also announced the RF 100mm f2.8L Macro IS USM, the first Canon macro lens with 1.4x magnification focused automatically.
The new RF 100mm f2.8L Macro IS USM is predestined for macro, still life, and portrait photography. This without a magnification ratio of 1.4: 1 is made possible by the internal focusing of the lens and the short flange focal length. It allows you to quickly capture details at close range with autofocus. The focal length of 100mm at F2.8 aperture is suitable for close-ups as well as portraits.
In addition to its high magnification, the new lens stands out as an improvement over the previous EF version EF 100mm f2.8L Macro IS USM with a new, variably adjustable lens ring for controlling spherical aberration. This allows the appearance of the background and foreground bokeh to be changed and at the same time, a soft-focus effect can be created on the subject. The speed of 1: 2.8 with 9 aperture blades enables a shallow depth of field and attractive bokeh.
It also offers an optical image stabilizer for up to 5 exposure levels or a coordinated IS for up to 8 exposure levels (according to CIPA standard) when used with a Canon EOS R5 or an EOS R6 for successful free-hand photos. The Dual Nano USM AF ensures an even, precise and fast autofocus, which works almost silently, while at the same time the so-called focus breathing is suppressed. This is ideal, for example, for filming and in post-production for focus stacking.

The Canon RF 100mm f2.8L Macro IS USM will hit the market at the end of July 2021, pre-ordering already started on the Bhphotovideo.com and Adorama.com for $1,399.
