After so many leaks, Canon has officially announced the EF 50mm F/1.8 STM with new motor system.
Successor to the EF 50mm F/1.8 II, the new Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 STM lens with a stepper motor for fast autofocus, quieter and focus ring can rotate continuously without point limit.
The design of the Canon camera lens is also changed, thinner (3.9 cm), lighter (160gr). This will be a new option for the portrait, It gives you the creative freedom to pinpoint focus on your subject and let the rest of the frame blend into a smooth blur. About composed optics, Canon said it has changed the structure of the lens inside with 6 elements into 5 groups, to achieve high optical quality and matching new motor.
At outside of the lens, Canon’s super spectra coating to reduce glare or ghosting etc. Minimum focus distance of this lens has been reduced to just 35cm. Maximum aperture of the lens is still F/1.8, is composed of 7-blade which helps you to better shoot in low light conditions, an improvement on bokeh as previous lenses.
What makes very successful to this next generation Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 lens is the ability to strong background blur, highlighting the subject and popping portraits. With stepper motor, this lens will be selected for good video recording with enhanced visible sharpness and contrast.
Canon will sell this lens at the end of the month with a price tag of $125, equivalent to Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 II lens.
