The Onyx Boox Tab Ultra is the new best ebook reader with an E Ink screen – or an E Ink tablet with Android. For the first time, the device has its own camera. Access to the Play Store allows the installation of any programs.
The Onyx has introduced a new E Ink tablet with the Boox Tab Ultra. The ebook reader is based on a Qualcomm processor with eight cores and comes with four gigabytes of RAM. The internal memory is 128 GB, which can be expanded by up to two terabytes using a memory card.
According to the manufacturer, there is full access to the Google Play Store as it runs the Android 11 operating system – this allows any apps to be installed. Due to the long response time of the display, not every app makes sense, but Android compatibility also allows surfing the Internet with standard browsers, for example.
It has an HD panel with a resolution of 1,404 x 1,872 pixels, which does not support a color display. The display has a screen diagonal of 10.3 inches, measures 225 x 184 x 6.7 millimeters, and weighs 480 grams. The front light can be adjusted in terms of color temperature.
A 6,700 mAh battery is installed, which is charged via USB Type C. Connection to a WiFi network is possible. Bluetooth 5.0 is supported, which should also allow audio files to be output via a corresponding headset. Microphone and speakers are installed. Operation with the finger is possible, but there is also a stylus, which is supposed to support input with 4,096 pressure levels.

The Onyx Boox Tab Ultra is available to pre-order from a Bhphotovideo.com and Amazon.com online retailers for under $600. Another e-reader from the manufacturer, the BOOX Edison E Ink tablet was introduced earlier this year and is also available on Amazon at $299.
