The third-generation Ultimate Ears Wonderboom Bluetooth portable speaker is here, and it brings several welcome improvements, like longer battery life and better Bluetooth range. One of the biggest weaknesses of the Wonderboom 2 mobile Bluetooth speakers is surprisingly retained.
The brand new Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 3 looks almost confusingly similar to its predecessor – the cylindrical, outwardly curved housing with big volume buttons still looks charming. The Bluetooth waterproof speaker has IP67 certification as before and it floats on the water.
The battery life increases up to 14 hours, and the Bluetooth range up to 40 meters. As usual, Ultimate Ears promises a “surprisingly rich” 360-degree sound, and an outdoor mode can be activated at the push of a button, which tunes the sound for the outdoors. In contrast to the previous model, the Wonderboom 3 is made from 31 percent recycled plastic. It is possible to combine two Wonderboom 3 into a stereo pair.
However, it is disappointing that the Wonderboom 3 still uses a micro-USB connector instead of USB-C. It means that users always have to bring an extra cable to charge the speaker instead of simply using their smartphone or laptop charging cable.
The Wonderboom speaker works with Chromebook certified and supports Google Fast Pair, making it an ideal solution for Android device owners. When paired, you can stream your music to the Wonderboom 3 via Bluetooth from up to 131′ away.
