Inside there is a system with eight transducers divided as follows:

  • 2 25mm tweeters
  • 2 mid-range of 50mm
  • 2 102mm woofers
  • 2 passive 102mm radiators

Driving them is a digital amplification system capable of delivering a maximum of 120 W. The sound processing and management of the BluOS platform are instead entrusted to a custom chip based on quad-core ARM Cortex A53 architecture. The choice fell on this solution due to the calculation capacity: the manufacturer claims that the speed in managing the DSP is up to eight times higher than another soundbar Bluetooth wireless models previously marketed. The increased power also enabled the processing of a 3D format such as Dolby Atmos (which is added to the more canonical Dolby Digital).

Pulse Soundbar + supports songs in MP3, AAC, WMA, OGG, ALAC and OPUS format. As we reported at the beginning of the article, you can also listen to music in Hi-Res formats and specifically in FLAC, MQA, WAV, AIFF, and MPEG-4 SLS. For sampling frequencies, it goes up to 192 kHz at 16 or 24-bit. The rich equipment also includes the possibility of using the voice assistants of Amazon, Google, and Apple.

Connectivity is extensive: we find a dual Wi-Fi 5 module (802.11ac) dual-band (to prevent latency), Bluetooth 5.0 with aptx HD, AirPlay 2, a front USB-A port (FAT32), an HDMI port with eARC, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and the output to connect a subwoofer (wired or wireless). Bluetooth is bi-directional: it can not only receive but also transmit (for example to a pair of headphones). Through the BluOS application, you can set the equalizer and manage the diffusion of music in various rooms of the house through other compatible products (multi-room).

The soundbar can be integrated into Crestron, Control 4, RTI, ELAN, URC, Push, Lutron, and iPort automation systems. System expandability is also guaranteed: the basic configuration can grow to become a true multi-channel system by adding the Pulse Flex 2i wireless speakers (for rear surrounds) and the Pulse Sub + wireless subwoofer.

Price and availability

Pulse Soundbar+ will be available from April 16, it is now available to pre-order on the Bhphotovideo.com and Amazon.com online stores at a price of $899 for the Black version and $999 for the White version.

Earlier this year, Polk Audio has introduced three new products – React Soundbar, React Wireless Subwoofer, and SR2 Wireless Speakers.
