Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 Camera with 6K Sensor announced

Blackmagic Design has announced a new high quality video camera – URSA Broadcast G2. This studio camera is the second generation of the URSA Broadcast series (the first model was introduced in 2018). This digital film camera series is used for broadcasting and recording reports.

The new Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 camera is equipped with a 6K sensor, dual base ISO and the ability to record in various formats. The design and features of the camera allow it to work as a studio camera (with 4K recording) and a digital film camera with 6K recording.

The camera can record into standard SD cards, UHS-II cards, CFast 2.0 cards, or external USB drives using common file formats such as H.265, ProRes, and Blackmagic RAW.

The new Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 features dual media slots for seamless recording. When the card is full, the recording automatically continues to the next card.

Video recording in 6K (6144 x 3456) with the new Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 camera is supported at the following bit rates:

The new camera that will make it possible to change the bayonet mount. It is possible to use B4 ENG lenses, large studio lenses, or even change the lens mount to PL, EF, F and use any lens with these mounts.

The URSA Broadcast G2 comes with the B4 mount already installed as standard. Plus a spare EF mount is included.

The Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 has a gain of -12dB (ISO 100) to + 36dB (ISO 25600). Blackmagic claims the camera is optimized to reduce grain and noise in images while maintaining the full dynamic range of the sensor.

The primary native ISO is 400, and the secondary high base ISO is 3200. Gain can be set using the camera switch, LCD menu, or remotely using the SDI camera remote control protocol.

The URSA Broadcast G2 camera is equipped with Neutral Density (ND) filters. The ¼, 1/16, and 1/64 stop filters have been specially designed to match the new matrix and color reproduction of URSA Broadcast G2. Infrared filters have been designed to uniformly filter both optical and infrared waves, eliminating infrared contamination. The filter status on the LCD can be displayed as a fraction, number, or stepwise decrease.

There is a rotating touch screen. The camera body has standard 12G-SDI connectors, XLR audio inputs, USB-C, and a standard 4-pin XLR connector for 12 VDC broadcasts.

Blackmagic Design URSA Broadcast G2 price and availability

The new studio camera from Blackmagic Design is available to pre-order at $3,995 through Adorama.com, and Bhphotovideo.com. Additionally, you can purchase interchangeable bayonet mounts – PL-mount ($254), and F-mount ($375).

All Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 models have a built-in Time Code generator, so you can sync all cameras and then do multi-camera editing. You can connect an external timecode generator to the BNC timecode input, and the camera will automatically detect the timecode and lock the internal generator.

In July, BlackmagicDesign launched two new Blackmagic Studio Camera models, new HyperDeck Studio Mini recorders, and Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K.

Also, Blackmagic had previously drastically cut the price of its Blackmagic URSA Mini 12K Cinema Camera. This digital film camera features a Super35 format sensor with 14 stops of dynamic range. At the start of sales, the price of the camera was $6,094.

However, a year after the official announcement, the manufacturing company has cut the price. Now the cost of Blackmagic URSA Mini 12K is $5,995 on Adorama.com.
