The range of LG projectors will soon be enriched with a new best short throw projector model. The upcoming UST projector is the Cinebeam HU715Q and could be added to the HU710P, from which it differs both for the shooting ratio and for the lighting system. LG HU715Q is similar to the previous CineBeam HU85LA: from the latter, it takes the design and basic technologies.
The heart of the new 4k projector for home consists of a DLP chip which, barring surprises, should be a 0.47″ (against the 0.66″ of HU85LA) with Ultra HD resolution obtained through eXpanded Pixel Resolution (XPR), a solution that allows you to recreate four pixels for each of the 1920 x 1080 micro-mirrors present.
The light source is based on a blue laser combined with a color wheel with phosphors. LG declares a maximum luminance of 2,500 ANSI lumens, 200 less than HU85LA, which is also characterized by larger dimensions: we are talking about 533 x 315 x 153 mm against 680 x 347 x 128 mm. The shot, equal to 0.22: 1, translates into the following ratio between screen size and projection distance:
- 80″ from a distance of 11.8cm
- 100″ from a distance of 21.7cm
- 120″ from a distance of 31.7cm
The specifications report a noise level between 26 dB (Eco mode) and 30 dB (Bright mode) and an estimated duration between 20,000 and 30,000 hours of operation depending on the mode chosen. The focus is motorized and can be adjusted using the supplied remote control, the white backlit Magic Remote with a video pointer, and an integrated microphone. The image distortions caused by an imperfect alignment with the screen can be corrected through the keystone, which operates on 4, 9, or 15 points.
LG HU715Q is equipped with Brightness Optimizer II, a technology that combines two functions. Auto-Brightness uses the brightness sensor to adapt the luminance to the ambient light conditions. Adaptive Contrast, on the other hand, is used to adjust the laser power concerning the images on the screen. The dynamic contrast ratio is 2,000,000: 1 with 85% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.
Compatibility with HDR cannot be missing: HDR10 and HLG formats are supported, and there is also dynamic tone mapping, the processing that analyzes the sources in real-time to optimize the balance between light and dark. A quad-core processor manages all the processing present, the same that we find on LG projectors of the same range. Among the most interesting possibilities, we mention those that intervene on the motion, namely TruMotion, which makes viewing more fluid through the interpolation of the frames, and Real Cinema, which maintains the original refresh rate of the film material (24 Hz).
The best short throw projector also includes Filmmaker Mode and HGiG (HDR Gaming Interest Group), the standard developed to ensure correct viewing of video games in HDR. The audio is reproduced through the speakers hidden under the front grille in Kvadrat fabric; we are talking specifically about a 2.2-channel system with a total of 40 W with support for Dolby Atmos passthrough. For the front, we have a couple formed by a tweeter and a woofer for each channel, while the bass is entrusted to two woofers placed on the back.
There are three HDMI inputs: two can handle the HDMI 2.0b band while one reaches 24 Gbps with Ultra HD resolution at 60 Hz in 4: 4: 4 10-bit. There are two supported HDMI 2.1 functions: Auto Low Latency Mode and eARC. The rest of the ultra short throw projector consists of two USB-A 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, an optical digital output, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The latter opens the way to an expansion of the audio configuration: by adding two speakers as rear satellites, a 4.2-channel system can be created; LG ensures correct operation only with its speakers.
As on other CineBeam projectors, we finally find the Smart TV based on webOS 6.0 with its usual equipment: there is the store to download applications, the media-player to play multimedia content, AirPlay 2 and Miracast (both up to Ultra HD resolution at 30 Hz), voice interaction managed by LG ThinQ, a web browser and LG Sound Sync for wireless connection of a compatible LG soundbar.
