Leica has released the best iPhone camera grip that should simulate the feeling of holding a Leica camera in your hands. The idea is to make shooting with a smartphone more convenient. The Leica Lux Grip weighs 120 grams, connects to the iPhone via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and costs $329, almost a third of the cost of the iPhone 16 Pro at the moment. The grip has physical buttons for greater shooting convenience.
The announcement follows the release of the dedicated Leica Lux app (out in the summer of 2024), which brings the Leica user interface and profiles to simulate the branded optics to iPhones.
The idea behind the grip is simple: The Leica Lux Grip not only offers a simulated two-stage shutter but also includes buttons for switching between shooting modes. Additionally, it allows users to select frequently used functions through the Leica Lux app.
The control dial makes switching between settings such as zoom, aperture, and shutter speed much more effortless.
The Leica Lux Grip’s built-in battery lasts for 1,000 shots before you need to charge it via the USB Type-C port. A full charge takes about two hours. The grip design guarantees compatibility with all iPhones that support MagSafe.
Leica Camera AG claims that the new Leica Lux Grip not only promises intuitive handling but also upholds the brand’s legendary high-quality manufacturing.
The grip looks and feels similar to a “classic Leica camera” and attaches to the user’s iPhone via MagSafe. It promises to improve the overall mobile photography experience in terms of ergonomics and satisfaction.
Leica Lux Grip Price and Release Date
The Leica Lux Grip is now available for $329 on B&H PhotoVideo. Leica also offers an optional leather case for $60. Buyers of the grip receive a one-year subscription to the Leica Lux shooting app at no extra cost, making it the best iPhone camera grip combo from Leica.
The application’s main innovation is imitating the bokeh effect from the legendary (often very expensive) Leica Summilux-M and Noctilux-M branded lenses. The application also allows you to apply Leica Looks filters and other artistic effects to your photos.
The Leica Lux app is free to download. However, full access to the app’s features will cost $6.99 per month or $69.90 per year.
Leica actively cooperates with smartphone manufacturers. In February, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra flagship is expected to be released with cameras developed jointly with Leica. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra flagship should compete with the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and other smartphones with advanced camera systems. The new product will receive four cameras: 200 MP (periscope module), 50 (inch sensor Sony Lytia LYT-900), 50 and 50 MP. The optics were developed jointly with Leica.
