Garmin is now offering the Fenix 8. The best Garmin watch for swimming and running is available in several model versions and is not a particularly cheap proposition. It promises many functions and a powerful screen, but there is no communication via satellite.
Garmin has a new smartwatch in its range – which is anything but a surprise after the leaks. Specifically, the Fenix 8 AMOLED is offered in three different sizes, namely with a 43, 47, and 51-millimeter case. The achievable battery life depends on several factors, particularly an always-on display. The battery life is then said to be limited to up to 13 days for the 51-millimeter version, and without the AMOLED constantly active, a runtime of up to 29 days is specified.
The 43-millimeter version comes with a 1.3-inch screen with a resolution of 416 x 416 pixels, while the 47-millimeter version has a 1.4-inch screen – just like the 51-millimeter version. The resolution is 454 x 454 pixels in each case. Depending on the selected model variant, Corning Gorilla Glass or Sapphire Glass protects the display, and the bezel features stainless steel or titanium. The Fenix 8 also offers an energy-saving MIP display, which is easy to read in sunlight.
The company advertises a wide range of functions, including a speaker and microphone that allow you to answer calls directly on the watch when paired with a smartphone. However, there is no mobile connection or satellite communication capability. The best Garmin watch for swimming and running can recognize voice input without a phone connection, allowing you to start training sessions using voice commands. The Garmin Fenix 8 includes an LED flashlight. It also supports use as a dive computer, with a depth rating of up to 40 meters. The watch comes with pre-installed maps, allowing navigation on your wrist.
Garmin Fenix 8 price and release date
The Fenix 8 is not cheap: the entry-level price is $999. The watches are available immediately from Adorama.com and Amazon.co.uk. Depending on the model version, delivery can be almost immediate or take a few weeks.
